Queen of Katwe actress Esteri Tebandeke dies after prolonged kidney battle

The Ugandan entertainment industry is mourning the loss of actress Esteri Tebandeke, who has passed away following a prolonged battle with a kidney condition.

According to trusted reports, Esteri had been hospitalised for some time as her health deteriorated. In 2022, she underwent a kidney transplant after her husband, Samuel Lutaata Tebandeke, donated his kidney in a bid to save her life. The procedure was initially successful, offering hope for her recovery.

However, complications later arose when her body reportedly began rejecting the transplanted kidney.

Her condition worsened in recent months, leaving her critically ill and admitted to the High Dependency Unit at Nakasero Hospital, where she was placed on oxygen support. It is also reported that her daily medical expenses had risen to approximately Shs 4 million.

Born in 1984, Esteri Tebandeke was known for her appearance as a video vixen in Singa by Bobi Wine. She also featured as an actress in the internationally acclaimed film Queen of Katwe.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to her family, friends, and fans during this difficult time.
