Jhené Aiko has shut down fan theories that she used her new album to expose Big Sean’s alleged cheating.
The speculation exploded after Aiko released “Westside Whimsy” on Friday, September 11, marking her first full-length album in six years.
One song in particular sent fans digging for clues.
On “He Belongs,” Aiko sings about a man who cannot turn a fling into a serious relationship or a promise into marriage.
Can’t turn a fling into a real thing. Can’t turn a promise into a wedding ring. Can’t turn a hoe into a husband.
That was enough for fans to connect the dots to Big Sean.
The two spent years together, worked as the duo TWENTY88 and welcomed their son, Noah Hasani, in 2022. Their relationship reportedly ended in 2025, although neither artist has publicly laid out the full story behind their split.
Then fans found another set of lyrics on “Ceiling (Freestyle)” that sent the speculation into overdrive.
Aiko appears to ask about three women by name while confronting a relationship filled with betrayal and broken trust.
Social media users quickly decided they had found a hidden message about Sean.
But Aiko was not having it.
After a fan directly suggested that “He Belongs” was about Big Sean, the singer stepped into the conversation and gave a two-word clarification.
Song is not about him.
She also rejected another fan’s suggestion that she had spent the album taking shots at Sean.
Her answer?
No.
That does not mean fans have stopped investigating.
Aiko’s new album explores love, heartbreak, healing and relationships, giving listeners plenty of material to dissect. Her record label describes “Westside Whimsy” as a love letter to Los Angeles, with Kendrick Lamar, Larry June, Ab-Soul, Tyga and OHMA among the featured artists.
Aiko has also sparked fresh romance rumors with Larry June, who appears on the album and has featured alongside her in recent music.
For now, though, the Big Sean theory has one major problem: Aiko herself says “He Belongs” is not about him.
Fans can keep decoding the lyrics, but the singer has already given them her answer.
