Ugandan singing duo Kataleya & Kandle have weighed in on the heated conversation about women dating poor men, and neither singer sees herself taking that route.
The debate has gained traction on Ugandan X in recent days after radio personality Doreen Nasasira spoke about her own experience dating a man who earned significantly less than her, explaining that, for her, money now comes first and love comes later.
Appearing on Bigenda Bitya, Kandle said she cannot, pointing to what she experienced and the struggles she watched her mother go through while growing up.
I suffered a lot growing up. I would not want to return to that kind of life. I watched my mother hustle to put me somewhere. I do not think I can, considering what I have gone through. Love is love, but I work so hard so that I do not become a huge burden to my man. I also work hard so that I land on the right person. I cannot marry a poor man.

Kataleya’s answer was much shorter.
I want a good life. I cannot. I am sorry.
She then took the conversation beyond her own preference, arguing that financial struggles can also create pressure within a relationship.
It is good that we have told them. Let them work. Even if a woman decides to be with a man who does not have money, she can still cheat. She can reach a point where she also wants to be like other women. She wants this, she wants that.

Kataleya wrapped up her point with a simple message for everyone caught up in the debate.
Okay, let us all work.
For now, that is where the duo stands: love matters, but neither is willing to gamble the life she wants on it.
