Singer Mikie Wine, born Michael Mukwaya, has opened up about why he has deliberately stayed away from vulgarity throughout his music career.
The singer, who has been active in Uganda’s music industry for close to two decades, says he has always been careful about the kind of lyrics he uses when composing his songs.
According to Mikie Wine, his music is largely centred on life, love, health, spirituality, and the everyday experiences that people go through, making it similar to gospel music in its message.
He explained that even when he is not directly preaching about God, his songs are intended to communicate lessons and experiences drawn from everyday life.
All my music is like gospel. It often teaches about different things in life. If it doesn’t preach about love, it preaches basics of everyday life, health, or praising God and everything that revolves around man’s life and living.
He added that vulgarity simply does not fit his personality, noting that fans are unlikely to hear him use vulgar language in his music or public expressions.
“Personally, I’m not a vulgar person and you’ll never hear me being vulgar. I failed on that.”
