  • The Fashion and Business Expo to bring the Business of Fashion to life as UIFW- 2026 kicks off this Sunday at UMA Showgrounds Lugogo

The Uganda International Fashion Week (UIFW) is set to return this Sunday- August 30th, with a fashion and creativity take over at the Uganda Manufacturers Association, (UMA) Multipurpose Hall, in Lugogo.

The UIFW 2026 will kick off with a Fashion and Business Expo, expected to bring together hundreds of young creatives, entrepreneurs, buyers, industry professionals and international guests. This Expo, whose role is to put the UIFW 2026 theme- ‘Fashion for Impact’ into perspective, will also act as the gateway to the Uganda International Fashion Week- 2026.

This Expo will create a space where creativity meets markets, skills meet opportunity, and fashion is presented- not simply as something to wear, but as an industry capable of creating jobs, businesses and economic value.

At the center of the Expo is CREATE, a programme designed to create sustainable, bankable businesses, as well as contribute to tackling youth unemployment and poverty by opening pathways into employment, entrepreneurship and skills development across the fashion value chain.

Through this Expo, which is a pillar of the CREATE programme, the UIFW organizers aim to give over 10,000 young creatives a physical marketplace and networking platform where they can showcase and sell products, ranging from apparel, art & crafts and jewellery, footwear, and all sorts of other creative works.

For three days, the UMA Multipurpose Hall will become a meeting point for creativity and commerce, with business-to-business linkages, exhibitions, mentorship and opportunities for creatives to connect with potential buyers and partners.

The Expo will also celebrate Uganda’s cultural identity through fashion, food, art, crafts, local fabrics and other forms of creative expression.

According to Arapapa and UIFW Founder- Santa Anzo, creating these opportunities is part of the much bigger ambition of building a stronger Ugandan creative economy.

“Fashion is one of the world’s fastest-growing economic sectors. Uganda is flooded with too many talented and innovation-minded people. We aim to turn these talents into skills, jobs and bankable businesses.”

“For 25 years, Arapapa has been demonstrating that Ugandan creativity can become intellectual property, employment and international visibility through tourism, business and trade. Through this CREATE programme, we aim to nurture more than 500 skilled tailors and create impact on over 10,000 young people over the next three years, with women and girls making up the majority of beneficiaries,” Anzo said.

The Expo will also bring the global fashion industry closer to emerging Ugandan creatives. Established creative brands and industry professionals from Nigeria, Ghana, South Africa, Kenya, Zimbabwe and India are expected in Uganda ahead of UIFW 2026, with several taking part in the Expo.

Their participation will create opportunities for one-on-one mentorship, knowledge exchange and business connections, giving young creatives a chance to learn directly from established players in international markets.

More than an exhibition of talent, the Fashion and Business Expo is intended to demonstrate what happens when Uganda’s creative talent is connected to the right skills, markets and opportunities. It is a practical expression of CREATE’s ambition to move young people from simply having creative talent to building sustainable livelihoods from it.

The three-day Expo will set the tone for the wider Uganda International Fashion Week programme, that shall culminate into a Grand Finale Gala on Saturday, September 5, at the Kampala Serena Hotel, where leading Ugandan and international designers will take to the runway.

The Expo will be open to the public from 10AM to 6PM, every day, from August 30 to September 1, with free entry.

    Creatives interested in reserving a stall can register through admin@uifwglobal.com, www.uifwglobal.com, or contact the UIFW team on +256 393 206 454 / +256 755 074 555.

  • Centenary Bank Launches Cente Green Days To Grow 500,000 trees by 2030

Centenary Bank Launches Cente Green Days To Grow 500,000 trees by 2030

Kampala, August 28, 2026: Centenary Bank has launched the Cente Green Days, a five-year tree-growing and landscape restoration initiative that will see the Bank support the growing of 500,000 indigenous timber and fruit trees across Uganda by 2030.

The initiative, launched under the theme “Growing Trees, Transforming Lives, Restoring Creation,” will support the restoration of degraded landscapes while creating environmental and economic benefits for participating communities.

Environmental degradation, particularly deforestation is one of the key sustainability challenges today which is worsening climate change through global warming. It affects agricultural production, business continuity, household incomes and the well-being of communities as a result of irregular rainfall patterns, prolonged drought and floods among others negative impacts of climate change.

Speaking at the launch, the Managing Director of Centenary Bank, Godfrey Byekwaso said the Cente Green Days forms part of the bank’s Environmental, Social and Governance agenda and its commitment to sustainable and responsible banking.

“At Centenary Bank, we are a values-based Bank that recognises the critical connection between financial services, businesses, communities and the environment in which they operate. It is therefore imperative on us to restore the environment in order to enhance the resilience and prosperity of the communities, especially vulnerable ones, only then can the bank prosper,” he said.

Centenary Bank plans to support the growing of 100,000 indigenous timber and fruit trees every year for the next five years across Uganda, making 500,000 trees by 2030. The initiative is expected to contribute to the restoration of approximately 300 acres of degraded land across 12 districts this year and about 1,500 acres over a five-year period.

The Bank is implementing the initiative in partnership with the Uganda Episcopal Conference and Good Forests Foundation with 12 Dioceses of Arua, Nebbi, Kiyinda-Mityana, Jinja, Masaka, Mbarara, Kabale, Kasese, Kotido, Moroto, Fort Portal and Tororo already participating in the programme.

Byekwaso said the Bank chose to work with the Catholic Church because of its trusted leadership, strong community presence and long-standing commitment to environmental stewardship. In addition to owning significant amounts of degraded land, the Church can mobilise communities and inspire people to embrace care for creation as a shared responsibility.

Good Forests Foundation on the other hand brings a wealth of the technical knowledge required to deliver lasting results. Its expertise in site assessment, species selection, planting, maintenance and monitoring will support tree survival and the successful restoration of degraded land.

“We also want participating communities to receive practical benefits from this programme. Indigenous timber and fruit trees can help protect soils, improve food security, diversify household incomes and strengthen resilience to erosion, floods and droughts,” Byekwaso added.

He called upon other organisations to join Cente Green Days and contribute resources, expertise and community networks to expand the programme’s impact beyond its initial five-year target.

Tree growing is not new to Centenary Bank, since 2023, it has supported the growth of over 250,000 trees across the Country. Additionally, in 2025, Centenary Bank began measuring its carbon emissions which stood at more than 6,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent. The Bank is now taking deliberate steps to manage and reduce its environmental footprint, including supporting tree growing as part of broader efforts to contribute to carbon sequestration.

  • Photographer Bash Mutumba Quits Boudoir To Focus On Glamour Portraits and Weddings

Photographer Bash Mutumba Quits Boudoir To Focus On Glamour Portraits and Weddings

Over the past 8 or so years, Ugandan photographer, published poet, and filmmaker Bash Mutumba solidified his name as one of the most renowned boudoir photographers in Africa.

His claim to fame was his capitalizing on a genre that isn’t much appreciated in Uganda and the Great Lakes region, due to our culturally conservative nature.

After years of trying to choose a genre to specialize in, Bash resorted to the sort of photoshoots popularized by supermodel Tyra Banks, Kim Kardashian, Kylie Jenner, Nicki Minaj, Rihanna and other Hollywood personalities.

Boudoir is a genre of photography that focuses on the sensuality of the human physique, and is usually captured in risqué outfits, lingerie, bikini, and sometimes implied nude.

Before Bash, the most notable Ugandan photographers to have embraced the genre were Daville Mutabaazi and Walter Photography, who coincidentally were both mentored by veteran photographer Oscar Ntege, who Bash credits as his teacher of photography as an art form in general.

Through a post on his X (fka Twitter) account, Bash announced his sudden rebrand.

Been revisiting my old non-boudoir work. And my current touch is totally different from the old one. Growth is such a fascinating thing.

Also, I made a decision to step away from boudoir and start anew. Follow my new pages. And book your shoots. Tell a friend to tell a friend.

The post got mixed reactions, with some praising his decision to go the route that makes the most financial sense in our society, and others castigating him for abandoning an art form they had grown to love him for.

Regardless of what he chooses to do next, we at MBU wish the young artist the very best of luck, every step of the way.

Everything he has touched over the years has turned to gold, so we are confident that his new brand, “WANO Creative,” will be a force to reckon with in the glamour portrait photoshoots and wedding photography genres.

  • Producer Washington Ebangit questions lack of endorsements for music producers

Producer Washington Ebangit questions lack of endorsements for music producers

Veteran music producer and singer Washington Ebangit has opened up about the relationship between music producers in Uganda’s entertainment industry, insisting that he does not harbour envy or jealousy toward his fellow producers.

Speaking from his personal experience dealing with other industry players, Ebangit said he has never believed in beefing or competing negatively with fellow producers.

He went on to make a rather unusual claim, revealing that he is even friends with traditional healers, whom he says often share information with him whenever other industry players visit them.

We producers don’t have jealousy or envy against one another. I don’t know about others, but me, I don’t envy or beef anyone. Even the witch doctors are my friends and love me a lot because most of them are my fans. Those witch doctors whom you visit send the message back to me, alerting me that some broke individuals have visited them.

Beyond producer relationships, Ebangit also aimed at major brands, questioning why they rarely recognise music producers through endorsement deals despite benefiting from their work.

He argued that producers deserve to be celebrated and rewarded for the sounds that brands use to promote their businesses and generate revenue.

“Has any company ever endorsed a producer? Let’s say they put up a billboard with my image to act as the face of the brand this year because they have my sound on their platforms. Yet they earn a lot from the sound for many years, but they cannot give back to producers by recognising the work they have done. Let’s stop behaving like the ancient people who lived in Jesus’ era.”

  • Cindy calls internet feud between Gloria Bugie and Crysto Panda a fair fight

Cindy calls internet feud between Gloria Bugie and Crysto Panda a fair fight

Cindy Sanyu has termed Gloria Bugie’s online attack against Crysto Panda’s lost baby and parents as “over the line,” but claims the battle was fair because the singer also attacked Bugie’s body, which is very sensitive to any woman.

    Crysto Panda vs Gloria Bugie

The week coming to a close had quite a lot going on, including an online back-and-forth war of words between artists, Gloria Bugie and Crysto Panda.

Their beef that has stretched for years reached a boiling point when Gloria Bugie, via X, attacked Crysto Panda’s status as an orphan. She also stated that his losing a child was a result of karma because of his bad heart.

“Ever sat down and wondered why you are an orphan, lost a child, keep losing, after all years of hustling, trying every career, you’re still a mediocre,” Bugie wrote.

    Sheebah Karungi Slams Gloria Bugie

Bugie’s statements drew immediate backlash from netizens who called her out, including her fellow artist, Sheebah Karungi, who criticised her attack, referring to it as “evil.”

“If you are the kind of human being who can use someone’s greatest loss of a mother, a father, or a child as a weapon to attack them, then you are an evil spirit,” Sheebah wrote via X.

    Cindy Sanyu Calls It Square

Cindy Sanyu, however, thinks the war was fair as both sides left wounded. In an interview with Tawfiq Media, the self-styled King Herself noted that Crysto Panda’s attack on Bugie’s body made it inevitable for the songstress to respond harshly.

I think the war is fair. There was fire from the East, and then came fire from the West, so it doesn’t matter how brutal it is. A war is a war. It’s fire for fire. There is no innocent side. There was so much heat from one side, and the other side retaliated.

This is a woman; our bodies are sacred to us, and we are very sensitive about our bodies. Somebody has taken time to make themselves beautiful, and you just trash all her efforts in one go. it would hurt a woman very deeply.

What she said was over the line but at the end of the day it is a fair battle. They can each heal their wounds and let that be over.

  • “Be Your 1st Feminist” — Gloria Bugie’s Message to Young Women

“Be Your 1st Feminist” — Gloria Bugie’s Message to Young Women

Gloria Bugie has shared a strong message urging young women to stand up for themselves amid the ongoing drama surrounding her fallout with fellow singer Crysto Panda.

Gloria took to social media with a call for women to become their own advocates, warning them that the world can be harsh and urging them not to allow anyone to take advantage of them.

Young girl out there, stand up for yourself every day. Be your 1st Feminist, it is a harsh world. No one is coming to save you.

She followed that with another blunt warning, telling women to stand their ground in what she described as a man’s world.

This is a man’s world. Do not let anybody step on you.

Gloria also pointed to what she described as unnecessary violence and evil before turning her attention to the everyday fight for rights and survival.

So much unnecessary violence and evil going on, but you have to be strong and fight for your rights, fight for your food on the table.

The message comes as Gloria and Crysto Panda’s public fallout continues to attract attention, with other figures in Uganda’s entertainment industry weighing in on the dispute.

The “Nyash” hitmaker, however, did not mention Panda by name in her latest post.

Instead, she addressed young women directly, leaving her followers with a message about standing up for themselves, fighting for their rights and putting food on the table.
