Over the past 8 or so years, Ugandan photographer, published poet, and filmmaker Bash Mutumba solidified his name as one of the most renowned boudoir photographers in Africa.
His claim to fame was his capitalizing on a genre that isn’t much appreciated in Uganda and the Great Lakes region, due to our culturally conservative nature.
After years of trying to choose a genre to specialize in, Bash resorted to the sort of photoshoots popularized by supermodel Tyra Banks, Kim Kardashian, Kylie Jenner, Nicki Minaj, Rihanna and other Hollywood personalities.
Boudoir is a genre of photography that focuses on the sensuality of the human physique, and is usually captured in risqué outfits, lingerie, bikini, and sometimes implied nude.
Before Bash, the most notable Ugandan photographers to have embraced the genre were Daville Mutabaazi and Walter Photography, who coincidentally were both mentored by veteran photographer Oscar Ntege, who Bash credits as his teacher of photography as an art form in general.
Through a post on his X (fka Twitter) account, Bash announced his sudden rebrand.

The post got mixed reactions, with some praising his decision to go the route that makes the most financial sense in our society, and others castigating him for abandoning an art form they had grown to love him for.
