Abba Marcus Mayanja, the eldest son of legendary Ugandan musician Jose Chameleone, was arrested and booked by Edina Police on August 14, 2026, on charges of domestic assault.

Law enforcement officials confirmed Mayanja faces charges related to an alleged act intended to cause fear of immediate bodily harm or death. He remains in custody at the Hennepin County jail, with bail set at $10,000.

The arrest follows a string of public relationship tensions between Mayanja and his split girlfriend, Angel. Shortly before his detention, Mayanja took to social media to accuse Angel of being controlling and abusive, despite the couple expecting a baby. Angel had previously leveled assault allegations against him, which Mayanja publicly denied.

Mugshots released by local authorities show Mayanja with distinct green hair and a “FREEDOM” neck tattoo. The arrest was linked to the couple’s documented history of public disputes, police have not yet released specific details regarding the incident that triggered the arrest.

As with all criminal proceedings, Mayanja is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

 

 

Just a week after Ray G set social media ablaze with a massive turnout at Kololo Airstrip, King Saha arrived at the very same venue and, judging by the sheer size of the crowd, raised the bar even higher. The highly anticipated Tugende E Kololo concert on Friday night transformed the vast grounds into an endless sea of people, drawing thousands to one of the biggest live music arenas in the country.

The show came amid a heated debate sparked by Ray G’s promoter, Abbey Musinguzi, popularly known as Abtex, who had boldly claimed that no artist from central Uganda could fill Kololo Airstrip the way the Western Uganda star had done. Whether Abtex’s provocation served as the ultimate rallying cry for central region music lovers or King Saha simply demonstrated his undeniable star power, Friday night delivered an indisputable response.

By 9:00 PM, crowds were still pouring in. Long, winding queues snaked along Wampewo Avenue, while another massive line stretched from Upper Kololo Terrace toward the main junction. At the gates, security personnel worked tirelessly to manage the overwhelming influx as concertgoers pushed to secure their spot inside.

Once inside, the vast scale of the turn-up became clear. The colossal stage erected by Fenon Events was visually stunning, but the massive audience meant fans toward the back struggled to see the action. Reading the room, production guru Steve Jean and his team quickly put up gigantic LED screens, ensuring everyone from the stands to the farthest edges of the grounds enjoyed a clear view.

King Saha delivered a masterclass performance divided into three crisp 40-minute sets, turning the night into a victory lap for his decades-long career. He kicked off the night in a bold green camouflage outfit, transitioned into an all-white ensemble for his second set, and closed out the marathon show in a head-turning, glittering red costume.

His hit-heavy setlist kept the energy at a fever pitch throughout the night. Moving effortlessly through his rich catalog, Saha dished out timeless anthems including Biri Biri, Mulirwana, Zakayo, Gundeze, Very Well, Ebisera Ebyo, Kamwanyi, Pretty Pretty, Yamba, Sala Pulesa, Nakyakala, and Batuleke.

The high-octane energy never dipped, thanks to an impressive lineup of guest performers who held down the stage during Saha’s costume changes. A star-studded parade of artists—including Roden Y, Feffe Bussi, King Michael, Crysto Panda, Spice Diana, Fik Fameica, Big Eye, Pastor Wilson Bugembe, and Mickie Wine—turned up in full force to support the main man.

By the time the lights went down, one thing was unmistakably clear: King Saha did not just answer the challenge, he made Kololo Airstrip his own.

KAMPALA, UGANDA — The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Local Government, Mr. Ben Kumumanya, has directed Chief Administrative Officers (CAOs) and Town Clerks across the country to enforce an immediate and orderly handover of offices from outgoing Parish and Village Council leaders to their newly elected successors.

Mr. Kumumanya emphasized that the role played by the new Local Council (LC1 and LC2) structures is vital to daily governance, requiring swift assumption of duty to avoid crippling public service delivery.

The directive comes on the heels of Uganda’s recent grassroots elections—with Parish Council polls held on July 28, 2026, and Village Council elections concluded on August 10, 2026—bringing a fresh wave of leaders into the core of the country’s decentralization architecture.

For Kumumanya, however, the conclusion of an election marks the beginning of an administrative duty: transferring executive power without halting government operations.

In a circular dated August 14, 2026 (Ref: LCD/102/104/01), Kumumanya ordered that the swearing-in, handover, and official takeover at Parish and Village levels be completed within 14 days from the circular’s date.

The Ballot Has Spoken; Governance Must Continue

While elections have changed the faces in local administration, public needs remain unchanged. Community roads still require maintenance, local sanitation challenges persist, neighborhood disputes demand mediation, and national development programs require active grassroots monitoring.

“The oath places a legal and moral responsibility on leaders before they begin exercising the authority entrusted to them by citizens,” Kumumanya stated, referencing the mandatory Oath of Allegiance under the Fourth Schedule to the Local Governments Act, Cap. 138.

Safeguarding Institutional Memory

Crucially, the Ministry’s directive demands that outgoing office bearers surrender all public property and administrative assets in their possession. Key among these are:

• Official rubber stamps and seal kits
• State-issued bicycles and motorcycles (where applicable)
• Official logbooks, registry archives, and administrative documents

The emphasis on institutional asset returns aims to prevent new administrations from restarting local government from scratch. Incoming leaders are expected to inherit functioning public institutions rather than vacant desks.

Comprehensive Handover Reports

To formalize the transition, Kumumanya instructed Parish Chiefs and Town Agents to actively assist outgoing leaders in drafting detailed written handover reports within their respective jurisdictions.

These reports serve as operational roadmaps, outlining ongoing projects, unresolved administrative matters, and financial accounting. At the grassroots level, where major government programs are executed, a structured report ensures uninterrupted workflow.

The First Leadership Test

As campaign posters fade and celebrations wind down, the immediate focus shifts to administrative accountability.

For newly elected local leaders, the transition presents an immediate test of humility, constitutional compliance, and public trust. For outgoing officials, it demands a exit marked by dignity and strict accountability.

The ballot has delivered new office bearers; the handover process must now deliver continuous governance.

KAMPALA — The Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) has summoned Salt Television (Salt TV) to respond to complaints over alleged violations of minimum broadcasting standards and content regulations arising from an episode of its programme Omusunsuzi.

In a letter dated August 12, 2026, UCC Executive Director Hon. Nyombi Thembo directed Salt TV to provide written representations over the programme, which was aired on June 17, 2026.

The programme, hosted by Mr Charles Ssenkubuge and Ms Jennifer Nakangubi, reportedly discussed “Operation Fika Salama”, a subject that prompted a complaint from Miyingo Benson and Single Mothers Alliance Ltd through Kasiko Advocates.

According to the UCC letter, the complainants allege that the broadcast contained content that was “malicious, defamatory and fraught with unconfirmed reporting”, contrary to the Minimum Broadcasting Standards and the Uganda Communications (Content) Regulations, 2019.

The Commission said it had conducted preliminary investigations into the complaint but required further information from Salt TV before making a decision.

“In accordance with sections 5(1)(j) and 45 of the Uganda Communications Act Cap 103, the Commission hereby directs Salt TV to provide written representations on the aforesaid programme aired on the date specified above and explain whether the Minimum Broadcasting Standards were complied with,” the letter states.

Salt TV has been given until Thursday, August 20, 2026, to submit its written response together with recordings of the programme in question.

The broadcaster and the complainants have also been summoned to appear before the Commission for a meeting on Friday, August 21, 2026, at 11:00am at UCC House, Bugolobi.

UCC said the complainants are required to attend the meeting to substantiate the allegations made against the broadcaster.

The Commission warned that if Salt TV fails to submit its written response or does not attend the scheduled meeting, it will proceed with its investigations and may take appropriate regulatory measures in accordance with the Uganda Communications Act and regulations made under it.

The case comes amid the regulator’s mandate to ensure that broadcasters comply with minimum standards governing television and other electronic media content in Uganda.
