TCNOGA Sports Gala returns for fourth edition with Guinness Party Village set to headline celebrations

The Trinity College Nabbingo Old Girls Association (TCNOGA) on Wednesday, 15 July 2026, launched the fourth edition of the TCNOGA Sports Gala.

This year’s event is slated for August 8, 2026, at the Uganda Information and Communications Technology Institute (UICT) Grounds in Nakawa, the same venue that hosted the presser.

The gala will bring together old girls from Trinity College Nabbingo alongside alumni for a full-day celebration of sport, sisterhood, wellness, and giving back to the community.

TCNOGA President- Marie Solome, revealed that the Nabbingo alumni will be joined by fellow elite girls’ schools’ alumni bodies, e.g. Nabisunsa Girls and Gayaza High, among others, with games like netball, volleyball, basketball, athletics (track races), tug of war, sack race, among others, on the card.

Notably, alumni leagues that are part of the Guinness Old Boys League, e.g. SMACK, SHACK, Mwiri, Namilyango, Butiki, among others, will also participate in the event and will headline the football category.

“It’s a day-long event, so we invite not just Nabbingo alumni but alumni from various schools across the country. Apart from sports, we’ll also be having other activities, including a fusion dance competition featuring music from the 80s, 90s, and 2000s, among others. We will also be hosting Owek. Robert Waggwa Nsibirwa, the Second Deputy Katikkiro, as our Chief Guest,” Marie said.

This year’s gala goes beyond sport as TCNOGA rallies behind a fundraising cause that will make a meaningful difference in the community.

One of the major attraction at this year’s gala will be the Guinness Party Village, which will serve as the event’s main entertainment hub. Guests can expect exciting brand activations, music, engaging experiences and exclusive offers on Guinness products throughout the day.

Speaking during the launch, Guinness Brand Manager- Denise Nazzinda said the partnership reflects the brand’s commitment to bringing people together through memorable shared experiences.

“Guinness has proudly supported alumni sports across Uganda for several years. While many know us through established old boys’ leagues, we are equally proud to partner with women’s alumni associations like TCNOGA because we believe alumni sport is for everyone. Events like this create opportunities for people to reconnect, celebrate their shared heritage and build stronger communities, and we are delighted to continue being part of that journey,” she said.

Guinness is joined by Crown Beverages (Pepsi), Pride Bank, St. Catherine’s Hospital, St. Joseph’s Hospital Wakiso, Next Media, MTN MoMo, Capital FM, Sumz Snacks, Victoria University, Old Mutual, and KCCA as partners of the 2026 TCNOGA Sports Gala.

  • Netflix Hit ‘The Polygamist’ Faces Ban Calls in Kenya as Official Threatens Lawsuit

Netflix Hit ‘The Polygamist’ Faces Ban Calls in Kenya as Official Threatens Lawsuit

Netflix‘s hit South African drama The Polygamist has sparked controversy in Kenya after a Nairobi County official called for the series to be banned, accusing it of promoting harmful ideas about marriage and unfairly portraying polygamous families.

Geoffrey Mosiria, Nairobi County’s Chief Officer for Citizen Engagement and Customer Service, says the drama presents polygamous men as “womanisers and animals” while encouraging viewers to become suspicious of their partners.

For Mosiria, the issue is more than just entertainment.

He revealed that he is the 21st of 22 siblings and said he comes from a polygamous family, making the show’s portrayal particularly offensive to him.

If you say polygamy is bad and I am a product of polygamy, then you mean my father made a mistake bringing me into this world.

Mosiria believes the series fuels mistrust in relationships and says Netflix should remove it from its Kenyan catalogue.

He also warned that legal action could follow if the streaming platform fails to act.

This movie should be banned completely from Kenya. It should be suspended from Netflix, and we are going to sue.

Based on Zimbabwean author Sue Nyathi’s 2012 novel of the same name, The Polygamist premiered globally on Netflix on June 12.

The 22-episode series follows wealthy businessman Jonasi Gomora as the secrets surrounding his marriages and affairs begin to unravel, turning his seemingly perfect life into chaos.

The drama quickly attracted international attention and entered Netflix’s Global Top 10 non-English TV rankings shortly after its release, cementing its status as one of the platform’s most talked-about African productions.

Mosiria’s remarks have since divided opinion online.

While some social media users support his criticism and argue that the series reinforces negative stereotypes about polygamous families, others insist that The Polygamist is a work of fiction and that viewers should have the freedom to decide whether to watch it.

  • Hundreds turn up as LC I chairperson nominations begin nationwide

The nomination of candidates for Village Council (LC I) Chairperson elections has officially begun across Uganda, with hundreds of aspiring leaders turning up on the first day of the exercise.

The Electoral Commission (EC) said eligible candidates are being nominated at their respective Sub-county, Town Council and Municipal Division headquarters. The exercise, which started on 15 July, will run until 19 July 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. each day.

EC Deputy Spokesperson Paul Bukenya said the opening day registered a strong turnout and encouraged more eligible Ugandans interested in contesting for the positions to present themselves for nomination before the exercise closes.

After nominations, candidates will campaign from 20 to 27 July 2026, ahead of polling scheduled for 28 July 2026.

Voting for LC I chairpersons will be conducted using the traditional lining-up method at designated public venues in each village. Every village will serve as its own polling station, and each candidate will be allowed to appoint two polling agents to monitor the voting process.

Meanwhile, the Electoral Commission is also conducting nominations for other village leadership positions. These nominations will run from 15 to 19 July 2026, followed by campaigns from 20 to 22 July 2026, while polling will take place on 23 July 2026.

The Commission has urged eligible citizens to take part in the electoral process, saying broad public participation is essential for credible grassroots elections and effective local leadership.

  • Naira Ali Hints at Getting a BBL, Asks Fans What They Think

Naira Ali Hints at Getting a BBL, Asks Fans What They Think

Naira Ali has left fans guessing after sharing a Facebook post that hinted she could be considering cosmetic surgery, particularly a Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL).

The United States-based Ugandan Afro-soul singer did not announce any plans to undergo the procedure. Instead, she invited her followers to weigh in with a question that immediately caught their attention.

I feel like I want to do a BBL. What do you think?

Beyond the post itself, Naira offered no further explanation.

She did not reveal what prompted the question or whether she seriously intends to undergo the procedure.

Her remarks also arrive at a time when cosmetic surgery has become an increasingly open conversation among Ugandan celebrities.

While singers such as Sheebah Karungi, Vinka, and Gloria Bugie have consistently denied undergoing cosmetic surgery, saying their figures changed naturally despite ongoing speculation, media personality Mami Deb has openly documented her body transformation journey.

Socialite Bad Black has also publicly confirmed undergoing cosmetic surgery, while South Africa-based Ugandan businesswoman Zari Hassan has spoken openly about procedures including liposuction, a tummy tuck and a temporal facelift.

For now, Naira Ali has said nothing beyond the question she posed on Facebook, leaving it unclear whether she was simply thinking out loud or seriously considering the procedure.

  • Zari Hassan, children declared beneficiaries of Ivan Ssemwanga’s estate after court settlement

South African-based Ugandan socialite Zari Hassan and her children have officially been declared the beneficiaries of the estate of her late ex-husband, businessman Ivan Ssemwanga, following a Family Court ruling that brings a years-long legal dispute to an end.

The decision followed an amicable agreement between Zari and Ivan Ssemwanga’s brothers over the administration of the estate. The court endorsed the settlement, confirming that the estate will be managed for the benefit of Ivan’s children, with Zari playing a custodial role.

Earlier this week, Zari attended the court session alongside two of her sons to receive the ruling, marking the conclusion of a case that has been before the courts for several years.

The settlement ends a prolonged disagreement that arose after Ivan Ssemwanga’s death in 2017. Following his passing, his family and Zari became involved in a dispute over the management and ownership of his assets.

Ivan, who was widely known for his lavish lifestyle, died at Steve Biko Hospital in Pretoria, South Africa, after suffering heart complications. Before his death, he had built a business empire that included several educational institutions in South Africa.

As part of the court-approved arrangement, Pinto Ntale, the eldest son of Ivan Ssemwanga and Zari Hassan, was recognised as the official heir to his father’s estate.

Zari Hassan will continue overseeing the family’s assets while preparing her sons to eventually take over the management of the businesses and other investments left behind by their father.

  • TIME TO PACK! Panic grips National Building Review Board staff over looming job loss

TIME TO PACK! Panic grips National Building Review Board staff over looming job loss

If you take the temperature of how several staffers at the National Building Review Board (NBRB) are feeling at the moment, the scale would likely read “uneasy.” They have good reason to feel anxious.

There is a massive recruitment going on there. And most staffers are now worried that their jobs may be on the chopping board. The body, with Eng. Flavia Bwire at the helm as the Executive Secretary, employs about 46 staff and with a board of 16 members.

Curiously this is a second massive recruitment exercise at the body in a period of two years. It goes without mention that during the financial year 2020/2021 the body recruited about 30 staff en masse.

Therefore one wonders why another recruitment is taking place after one year. According to a recent advert, 21 vacant positions were advertised and responded to. These include: Technical Assistant, Manager ICT, Manager Investigations, Senior Internal Auditor Senior Policy and Planning Officer, Senior Human Resource Officer, Senior Investigations Officer -Civil/Structural,  Investigations Officer – Civil/Structural, Investigations Officer-Electrical, Building Officer-Architectural,  Building Officer-Civil/Structural, Standards Officer Legal Officer, Internal Auditor, Research Officer, ICT Support Officer Assistant Inventory Management officer, Stenographer Secretary and three Drivers.

But we have learnt that some of the former occupants of these positions were reportedly fired in November last year and others demoted after falling out with top bosses. But the official reason given to them was that they did not pass probation.

These include Omoding Nicholas-Manager Investigations, Mary Twesigomwe-Senior Legal Officer, Ajidiru Winny-Senior Human Resource Officer, Ashaba Stelson-Senior Internal Auditor.

These had a bitter fallout with the ES Eng.Flavia following disagreements on a number of issues with some related to procurement and appointment of new board members.

We are just asking, could there be issues with Eng. Flavia led administration style of management? This is a story for another day where we shall detail the extent of the rot there going by a whistle-blower report to President Museveni seen by this publication.

The National Building Review Board is a government agency under the Ministry of Works and Transport established by the Building Control Act, 2013. The Board is mandated to monitor building developments; ensure that the design and construction of buildings and utilities to which the public is to have access cater for persons with disabilities; oversee, inspect and monitor the operations of Building Committees; hear and determine appeals from persons dissatisfied with the decisions of a Building Committee; and to determine the fees to be charged by urban and district building committees for approval of plans, issue of building permits and occupation permits.

    BACK TO THE ONGOING RECRUITMENT

A section of current staffers who survived the November, 2021 guillotine are not happy with what is going on and some have already put board members on notice.

There are allegations that the recruitment is focusing on frustrating and kicking out people hated by some top bosses. And in the grand scheme of things, these must be replaced with bosses’ friends, allies, acquaintances, spouses, relatives, tribe mates, girlfriends, boyfriends and among others. Contacted for a comment, NBRB’s public relations officer, Herbert Ziwa briefly told us that the recruitment exercise is going on smoothly.

    PUBLIC SERVICE DIRECTIVE IGNORED?

It is not clear whether this recruitment exercise contravenes Public Service bosses’ directive to halt recruitment of new staff, offering of new appointments, extension of contracts or filling any vacant position in departments and agencies based on decision by Cabinet to rationalise government agencies.

We also recently reported how this directive had sparked a civil war.

Highly placed sources intimated to this publication that morale is low in these agencies and the atmosphere is toxic. Some staffers don’t see eye to eye and the same goes for their bosses. Some staffers in these agencies now feel the directive is being abused by top bosses in these agencies.

Since it was issued, many staffers have reportedly lost their jobs and those whose contracts are yet to expire feel being overworked. That whereas some staffers whose contracts after expiry were shipped out of these agencies basing on the directive, this has not been the case with some, especially top bosses implying it is being applied selectively.

Those shipped out feel something could have been done to keep them around but instead the directive offered a perfect revenge opportunity and as well a window for bosses to bring in friends, allies, acquaintances, spouses, relatives, tribe mates, girlfriends, boyfriends in the grand scheme of things.

Some loved staffers’ contracts keep being extended every four to six months yet some employees were reportedly never given this chance but instead kicked out. Public service had guided agencies affected by mergers that in case they were to recruit critical staff, it should be short term contracts and the period of employment should not exceed 30th June, 2023 when the merger process is expected to be completed. IN OUR NEXT PUBLICATION WE SHALL REVEAL AGENCIES WHERE THIS CIVIL WAR IS RAGING. • Uganda Opens Global Trade Gateway as PACEID Launches 2026 International Buyers’ Week

Uganda Opens Global Trade Gateway as PACEID Launches 2026 International Buyers’ Week

Uganda has launched a major new push to expand its footprint in global markets after the Presidential Advisory Committee on Exports and Industrial Development (PACEID) unveiled the Uganda Connect International Buyers’ Week (UCIBW) 2026, a trade platform designed to connect local exporters with international buyers, investors and strategic partners.

The announcement was made on Wednesday during a press briefing at the Sheraton Kampala Hotel, officially setting the stage for the second edition of Uganda’s flagship international trade promotion programme, scheduled for November 9–15, 2026 at the Speke Resort Convention Centre, Munyonyo.

Held under the theme “MEET. CONNECT. TRADE.”, the week-long event will bring together verified global buyers, exporters, investors, trade organisations and development partners for high-level business engagements aimed at converting Uganda’s production capacity into export opportunities.

The programme will feature business-to-business meetings, investment roundtables, sector-focused deal rooms, factory visits, product exhibitions and tourism experiences intended to showcase Uganda’s commercial potential.

PACEID Chairman Odrek Rwabwogo said the launch represents a strategic shift in Uganda’s trade approach — moving beyond increasing production volumes towards building strong markets for locally made products.

“The prosperity of any nation begins with markets,” Rwabwogo said, emphasising that Uganda’s next phase of economic growth depends on creating sustainable demand for its goods and services.

He added that successful economies prioritise understanding customers and markets before scaling production.

“Every successful company invests in finding customers before expanding production,” he said, noting that Uganda must continue strengthening standards, infrastructure and financing systems to compete internationally.

    Uganda Targets Bigger Export Deals

The 2026 Buyers’ Week builds on the inaugural edition held in 2025, which generated more than $1.5 million in export contracts.

PACEID now aims to attract a larger network of international buyers and facilitate at least 20 export transactions valued at more than $3 million during the 2026 edition.

The initiative is expected to provide Ugandan businesses with direct access to international markets while helping exporters understand buyer expectations, quality requirements and global supply chain standards.

PACEID Markets Director Katarikawe Opus Brenda described the platform as a bridge between Uganda’s producers and global commercial opportunities.

“Uganda Connect International Buyers’ Week is where production meets opportunity, and where relationships are developed. Every buyer who comes to Uganda leaves as an ambassador,” she said.

Exporters Prepare for Global Market Competition

Following the launch, PACEID will begin a nationwide exporter preparation programme running from July to October 2026.

The initiative will focus on export readiness, compliance, branding, trade negotiations, buyer engagement and market-specific requirements to help Ugandan companies become more competitive internationally.

PACEID said the programme is part of broader efforts to accelerate value addition, industrialisation and foreign exchange growth through increased exports.

The committee is also releasing its January–June 2026 Half-Year Performance Report, highlighting progress in market development, standards compliance, export infrastructure, export financing and strategic partnerships.

Positioning Uganda as a Global Trading Partner

PACEID said UCIBW 2026 is not only about signing contracts but also about building confidence in Uganda as a reliable business and investment destination.

“Every international buyer who visits Uganda becomes a witness to our quality, our hospitality and our investment potential,” Rwabwogo said.

As Uganda pursues export-led industrialisation, the organisers believe the Buyers’ Week will help create stronger links between producers and international markets, encouraging factory expansion, job creation and increased economic value from locally produced goods.

The launch signals Uganda’s ambition to compete for a larger share of global trade — with a message to exporters that success in international markets will depend not only on what the country produces, but on its ability to connect with buyers worldwide.

  • Mukono Rallies Leaders, Communities in Renewed Push to Eliminate Malaria

Mukono Rallies Leaders, Communities in Renewed Push to Eliminate Malaria

    By Rev. Derrick Kaddu Mbojjana

MUKONO – Mukono District leaders have launched a renewed campaign against malaria, calling on local leaders and communities to take greater responsibility for environmental sanitation and collective action as the district intensifies efforts to eliminate one of Uganda’s deadliest diseases.

The campaign was unveiled during a half-day planning meeting held on Tuesday at Ddundu Parish in Kyampisi Sub-county, hosted at the residence of former Vice President Dr. Specioza Wandera Kazibwe. The meeting brought together political leaders, health officials, technical staff, local council leaders, parish chiefs and development partners to chart the implementation of the Ministry of Health’s Malaria Elimination Strategic Plan (2026–2030) in Mukono’s high-burden communities.

Deputy Resident District Commissioner Moses Muyambi challenged local leaders to move beyond politics and take ownership of efforts to eliminate mosquito breeding sites by promoting environmental sanitation.

“We must work together for the wellbeing of our communities by clearing bushes, draining stagnant water and maintaining clean surroundings,” Muyambi said, adding that residents should avoid self-medication and instead seek proper diagnosis and treatment from qualified health facilities.

Representing Mukono District Chairperson Rev. Peter Bakaluba Mukasa, Secretary for Education, Health, Trade and Community-Based Services Anna Lubulwa reaffirmed the district’s commitment to supporting the malaria elimination programme.

She praised Dr. Kazibwe for championing the initiative, expressing optimism that increased community awareness would significantly reduce malaria infections and deaths across the district.

Deputy Chief Administrative Officer Stephen Muhumuza said the district would prioritise public education, community mobilisation and coordinated implementation to ensure the campaign succeeds.

District Health Officer Dr. Stephen Mulindwa said government had strengthened the district’s emergency healthcare system by providing four ambulances and pledged that mosquito net distribution would continue to protect vulnerable households.

He reiterated the district’s commitment to reducing malaria-related illness and deaths through improved prevention and treatment.

Data presented by District Vector Control Officer James Kaweesa showed that malaria remains particularly prevalent in parishes bordering wetlands and forests, including Kyampisi, Kasawo and Namuganga.

Kaweesa warned that malaria continues to undermine education, household incomes, maternal health and economic productivity, urging residents to consistently sleep under insecticide-treated mosquito nets, seek testing before treatment and embrace child vaccination programmes.

In an emotional testimony, Dr. Specioza Wandera Kazibwe revealed that she nearly died after contracting severe malaria during the 2025 New Year festivities, requiring admission to an Intensive Care Unit.

She said the experience reinforced her determination to support community-based malaria control initiatives.

Dr. Kazibwe also cited successful interventions around her farm, where coordinated testing, treatment and environmental management significantly reduced malaria cases.

Busoga Health Forum Executive Director Moses Kyangwa shared lessons from the region’s malaria reduction programme, highlighting community mobilisation, indoor and outdoor spraying, mass testing and continuous surveillance as key pillars behind its progress.

Mosquito control specialist Dr. Fredrick Kabbale advocated an integrated approach combining mosquito net use, indoor residual spraying, environmental sanitation and destruction of mosquito breeding sites.

He also announced plans to recruit and train youth brigades to support spraying operations, household mapping and community sensitisation throughout Mukono District.

The meeting resolved to establish a District Malaria Elimination Committee, prioritise high-risk parishes, develop district and parish by-laws against misuse of mosquito nets, strengthen community awareness campaigns, train village health publicity teams and spray operators, expand household testing and treatment, involve schools in malaria education and enhance surveillance and monitoring systems.

The meeting concluded with a renewed commitment from district leaders, health professionals and development partners to work together in implementing the Ministry of Health’s malaria elimination strategy.

Officials said sustained collaboration between government, local leaders, health workers and communities will be critical in reducing infections, saving lives and ultimately making Mukono District malaria-free.
