Kampala set for a Sonic Takeover at Don Julio powered Spinny And Friends BBQ Experience

Kampala’s evolving social scene continues to tilt toward more intentional, daytime experiences. And the upcoming Spinny & Friends BBQ Easter Sunday outing is positioning itself right at the center of that shift.

Set to take place at the splash Mezo Noir lounge, in Kololo, the latest edition of the Spinny and Friends Experience promises a perfect Easter Sunday, complete with music, food, and premium tequila culture, in a unique format that moves away from the city’s traditional late-night template.

Curated by DJ Spinny, and backed by Don Julio, the event leans into a relaxed and more social rhythm- one that builds from mid-afternoon ease into a sunset-driven crescendo.

Over time, Spinny & Friends has carved out a niche within Kampala’s creative community, drawing a crowd that is as interested in atmosphere as it is in sound.

This edition sharpens that identity. Rather than hinging on headline acts, the experience is anchored in collective energy, with a rotating lineup of DJs—Spinny’s “friends,” tasked with guiding the day’s sonic direction, from soulful selections into Afro-house and Amapiano.

But it is the introduction of the BBQ element that signals a more deliberate layering of lifestyle and Easter celebration.

The grill becomes more than a food station; it is part of the experience’s texture; smoke, aroma, and shared plates folding into the music, to create a setting that feels at once relaxed and considered. It is an approach that mirrors a broader cultural pivot in Kampala, where social gatherings are increasingly designed around connection rather than excess.

“Spinny and Friends is always about creating spaces where people genuinely connect,” says DJ Spinny. “This edition brings it back to the basics; good music, good food, and good people, but done in a way that feels elevated.”

That sense of elevation extends to the drinks menu, with Don Julio curating a selection of cocktails alongside its tequila range that includes Blanco, Reposado, Añejo, and the premium 1942.

For the brand, the partnership is as much about cultural alignment as it is about visibility.

“Spinny and Friends speaks to a generation that values authenticity and shared experiences. This collaboration allows us to be part of moments that feel both premium and personal,” said Judie Nandekya, Senior Brand Manager Tequila and Rum East Africa.

Gates will open at 3pm, with table packages starting from Shs 1m and scaling up to premium offerings featuring Don Julio 1942. Bookings can be made via 0775 050041 or 0751 308160.

  • KS Alpha Says He Never Quit Music, Only Changed Strategy

KS Alpha Says He Never Quit Music, Only Changed Strategy

Veteran Ugandan artiste KS Alpha has pushed back against claims that he stepped away from music, insisting he never took a break.

Once a dominant name in the industry, the Afro-reggae and dancehall singer has recently stayed out of the spotlight, leading many to assume he had shifted focus.

But speaking on Sanyuka Uncut, KS Alpha said the reality is different, explaining that he only changed his approach while staying active.

I did not take a break. However, I changed the way I do things, and people who really follow me know that even the music has changed a bit, but I have not lost track of the goal. As time passes, you cannot keep doing the same thing. Even in business, you cannot do it the same way you were doing it 20 years ago.

    KS Alpha Music

He also pointed to his longevity, noting that his music stretches across generations.

I have songs that are older than some of the artistes. We have artistes who are 20 or 22 years old, yet I have songs that are over 24 or 25 years old.

To further dismiss claims that he is inactive, the singer highlighted recent moves, including a concert he held late last year.

I even had a concert in December, late last year at the National Theatre. I am around and still working.

Despite reduced visibility, KS Alpha insists he remains active and focused, continuing to evolve with time.

Dax Vibez says he’s not impressed by Kenzo and Joshua Baraka

Dax Vibez has stirred the pot in a bold, no-holds-barred interview, making it crystal clear that not everyone in the game meets his standards!

Speaking on Galaxy TV with Rewind Team, Dax didn’t mince words as he revealed why fellow stars Joshua Baraka and Eddy Kenzo haven’t made his personal “greatness list.” And no, it’s not about hits, fame, or charts!
Dax Vibez dropped a bombshell: for him, real greatness goes beyond individual wins. He’s looking for legends, game-changers who open doors for others, not just shine solo.

The “Believe” hitmaker pointed to African heavyweights like P-Square, 2Face Idibia, and D’banj as his gold standard.

“There are many Nigerians who made it internationally and opened doors for many others, so I want that Godfather who opens doors for very many so that our industry goes out there, to be exported.”

According to Dax, these icons didn’t just go global, they kicked the door open for an entire generation!

In a brutally honest take, Dax Vibez criticized Uganda’s music industry for what he sees as a flawed strategy, pushing one artist at a time onto the world stage.

‘We want someone who will reach there and not gatekeep the links, they share the links with others. I’ll do it myself if they fail, let them give me the responsibility.”

  • Nothing fixed in such a bad economy: Why King Saha opts for flexible booking fees

Nothing fixed in such a bad economy: Why King Saha opts for flexible booking fees

King Saha, one of the most booked Ugandan performers, says he takes on any opportunity to earn money in the current economic climate, and does not set fixed prices for his bookings.

Fixed prices for bookings have been a way for several local artists to regulate their schedules by only taking on those well-paying gigs.

Often, gigs outside Kampala attract higher pay, which is why artists usually long to perform upcountry at least once every week.

Within the city, entertainers are booked within the Ugx1.5m to 6m, and above, depending on what the artist’s team sets out.

King Saha, however, says he has forever declined to set a minimum price as his booking fee because the economy is bad and he has financial goals to beat.

I haven’t put a fixed price for my bookings. Whatever I am given, and it’s worth it, I will take it. You cannot call me with an opportunity, and I have some financial issues to fix, and I refuse to take on the job.

In such a terrible economy, you have to take on each given opportunity. In a bad economy, you cannot set standards of payment.

Weasel reminiscences attempting to report Chameleone to police – Sqoop

It was meant to be a serious day, one of those tense, quiet walks into a police station where every word feels heavy and every second stretches longer than it should. But in true Ugandan fashion, life had other plans.

Weasel recently shared a memory that flips tension into laughter, a moment so unexpected it now lives somewhere between irony and comedy.

“I remember when we went to the police station to report Jose Chameleone,” Weasel recalled. “Then the Afande’s phone rang…”

And just like that, the room shifted to silence, but the kind of ringtone the police officer had in his phone.

Blasting through the officer’s ringtone was none other than “Valu Valu”, one of Chameleone’s most iconic love songs. A soundtrack of passion, heartbreak, and devotion… now echoing inside a police station where the very man behind it was the subject of a report.

You can almost picture it: stiff faces struggling not to crack, glances exchanged in disbelief.

Here they were, reporting Chameleone while his voice serenaded them from a government-issued desk.

  • SCHOOL HORROR! Bloodbath in Makindye as Knife-Wielding ‘Terrorist’ Slaughters Four Children at Ggaba Kindergarten — IGP Byakagaba Rushes to Scene!

Panic, screams and unimaginable grief rocked parents and residents this morning after a lone attacker stormed into Ggaba Early Childhood Development Program and unleashed a deadly knife attack on innocent children, leaving four juveniles dead in cold blood.

The horrifying incident unfolded in the quiet suburb of Ggaba, where what began as a normal school morning quickly turned into a nightmare. Witnesses say the suspect, described as a male adult, forced his way into the school premises before turning his weapon on the defenseless young learners in a sudden and brutal rampage.

“It was chaos… children screaming, teachers running,” an eyewitness recounted, still visibly shaken. “No one understood what was happening until it was too late.”

Police swiftly responded and managed to apprehend the suspect at the scene, preventing what could have been an even greater tragedy. Authorities have since cordoned off the area as forensic teams begin the grim task of piecing together exactly what transpired inside the school.

The Uganda Police Force confirmed the arrest and the deaths, describing the attack as “tragic” and “deeply disturbing.” The motive behind the killings remains unclear, with investigators exploring all possible angles, including whether the act could be linked to terrorism or was the work of a lone disturbed individual.

In a sign of the gravity of the situation, the Inspector General of Police Abbas Byakagaba is reported to be on the ground, personally overseeing the response and investigations. Security has been heightened in the surrounding areas as authorities urge calm among the public.

Grief-stricken parents gathered outside the school, many in tears, desperately seeking answers and confirmation about their children.

As the city grapples with the shock, officials say more details will be released in due course, including the identity of the suspect and the circumstances leading up to the attack.

  • Gen Kyaligonza’s Son, Kikuube LC5 Chairperson Banura Killed In Hit-And-Run Hours After Easter Message

Gen Kyaligonza’s Son, Kikuube LC5 Chairperson Banura Killed In Hit-And-Run Hours After Easter Message

KIKUUBE — Shock, grief and disbelief have engulfed Kikuube District and the wider Bunyoro sub-region following the tragic death of LC5 Chairperson Peter Banura Araali in a fatal road crash Saturday evening.

Banura, son of Maj. Gen. Matayo Kyaligonza, Uganda’s Ambassador to Burundi, was knocked by a speeding Toyota Hiace commuter taxi—commonly known as a “drone”—as he briefly stopped to greet residents along the Hoima–Fort Portal road.

The deadly incident occurred between 7:00–8:00 PM at Butyamba/Butiamba area in Kikuube Town Council, near Kamusunsi Trading Centre.

    Knocked While Greeting Residents

Preliminary reports indicate the taxi lost control and veered into pedestrians and bystanders.

Banura and several others were rushed to Hoima Regional Referral Hospital—but he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The driver fled the scene immediately after the crash, triggering a police manhunt. Authorities have since confirmed multiple casualties.

Police spokesperson Rusoke Kituuma acknowledged the incident, while district officials say Banura had made a brief roadside stop moments before tragedy struck.

    RDC Speaks Out

Kikuube Resident District Commissioner Angalia Godwin addressed hundreds of mourners at Hoima Regional Referral Hospital, confirming that security agencies have kicked off investigations into the fatal crash that claimed the life of the district chairperson.

    A Haunting Final Message

In a twist that has left many shaken, Banura had posted an Easter message just hours earlier.

At around 12:33 PM, he shared a hopeful note celebrating the resurrection of Christ and calling for unity and progress in Kikuube:

“Alleluia! Christ is risen… awakening hope, restoring faith, and blessing every soul with new beginnings.”

That message has now turned into a painful farewell, attracting an outpouring of tributes and disbelief online.

    Tributes Pour In

Leaders across the region have described Banura as a dedicated, humble and forward-looking leader, credited for steering Kikuube’s early development—especially at a time the district is positioning itself within Uganda’s oil economy in the Albertine Graben.

    Among those who paid tribute:

    • Nyakato Asinansi hailed him as “visionary and hardworking”
    • State Minister Balaam Barugahara Ateenyi described his death as a profound national loss

On social media, grief mixed with shock, with many pointing to the painful irony of his message of hope hours before his death.

One user summed it up bluntly: “Life is unpredictable… RIP.”

    Bigger Questions On Road Safety

Banura’s death once again throws a spotlight on reckless driving and weak enforcement on Uganda’s highways—particularly involving commuter taxis.

For a district leader to die in such circumstances has raised uncomfortable questions:

    • Are traffic laws being enforced?
    • Who regulates the conduct of public transport operators?
    • How many more lives must be lost before action is taken?

    A Leader Gone Too Soon

Banura, Kikuube’s pioneer LC5 chairperson, was widely seen as a steady hand in a young district, balancing local governance with the pressures of oil-driven transformation.

His sudden death leaves a leadership vacuum—and a community in mourning.

Watchdog Uganda joins the nation in grieving Peter Banura Araali.

May his soul rest in eternal peace.

  • 250 lives lost, Shs2 billion stolen since start of 2026 — Says Military Intelligence Chief Gen. Richard Otto

The Uganda People’s Defence Forces has reported that more than 250 people have been killed in violent crimes across Uganda since January 2026, with criminals also stealing an estimated Shs2 billion during the same period.

The update was presented to Parliament’s Defence and Internal Affairs Committee by Richard Otto, the Chief of Defence Intelligence and Security, during discussions on the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs’ 2026/27 policy plans.

Otto explained that at least 700 violent incidents have been recorded so far this year. These include murder, robbery, theft, mob justice, and land-related conflicts. He noted that most of these crimes are happening in urban and semi-urban areas, where challenges such as drug and alcohol abuse, unemployment, and broader economic pressures are contributing to insecurity.

Despite the figures, Otto assured lawmakers that the country remains stable and secure. He said preparations for the swearing-in of newly elected leaders following the 2026 general elections are underway, reflecting continued national stability.

However, he warned that Uganda still faces several security threats, including terrorism, cybercrime, transnational crime, livestock theft, and environmental risks. He emphasized the need for continued investment in modern security equipment, technology, and personnel to strengthen the country’s ability to respond to these challenges.

Otto added that the UPDF remains alert and ready to respond to any threats, maintaining a strong and proactive approach to safeguarding national security.

KIU Law Student Hospitalised After Sustaining Injuries Playing Jesus Christ During Good Friday ‘Way Of The Cross’ Walk

A second-year law student at Kampala International University (KIU) is receiving medical treatment after sustaining injuries during a Good Friday passion play dramatisation in Kampala — injuries he suffered in the course of portraying Jesus Christ during the iconic “Way of the Cross” walk.

Dennis Zziwa, who was selected to play the role of Jesus Christ at Our Lady of Africa Church’s Good Friday commemorations, sustained physical injuries from the beatings that are part of the dramatisation of Christ’s suffering and crucifixion journey.

The injuries were serious enough to require immediate medical attention on site from Red Cross staff, and he was subsequently transferred to Lamone Health Centre in Luzira for further treatment.

    What Happened

The “Way of the Cross” — also known as the Stations of the Cross — is one of the most significant Catholic devotional traditions observed on Good Friday each year. At Our Lady of Africa Church, the commemoration included a live dramatic re-enactment of Christ’s Passion, with Zziwa chosen to physically portray Jesus Christ through the walk.

As part of the dramatisation, Zziwa endured beatings consistent with the biblical narrative of the flagellation of Christ — a physically demanding and painful element of the re-enactment that, on this occasion, resulted in injuries significant enough to require medical intervention.

Red Cross staff who were present at the event administered initial treatment. Given the nature of his injuries, however, he was transferred to Lamone Health Centre in Luzira for further medical care
