Veteran musician-turned-lawmaker Racheal Magoola has weighed in on the rising cases of violence among emerging artists in Uganda’s creative industry, strongly condemning the trend.
She described the fights as pointless and harmful, emphasizing that they do nothing to advance the entertainment sector.
According to her, such behavior only leads to the destruction of property and the waste of opportunities, with no real benefit to those involved or the industry at large.
In her words, violence is “useless” and should be eliminated if the creative economy is to grow.
Violence in the entertainment or creative economy, we should find a way of getting rid of it. It’s useless and doesn’t help us in any way. People fight and damage their property with nothing to gain at the end.
On the issue of Alien Skin suspending his performances in the Busoga region, Magoola downplayed the impact of the decision. She noted that Busoga has a strong pool of talent capable of sustaining the industry even in his absence.
She pointed to artists like Acidic Vokoz and Tina Baby as examples of performers who can continue entertaining audiences in the region. Magoola stressed that one artist’s absence cannot stall the progress of the entire industry.
If Alien Skin decided not to perform in Busoga, it’s his right to do as he wishes because we have very many artists from the region, like Acidic Vokoz and Tina Baby, among others. If he comes or doesn’t, the industry won’t stop at that.
