Elijah Kitaka has raised concern over what he describes as growing misinformation within the music industry, warning that influential voices are shaping public perception in the wrong direction.
Speaking during an interview on NBS After 5, Kitaka pointed out that certain individuals in the industry hold significant power and can easily influence how audiences perceive artists, sometimes unfairly.
According to him, these voices often label some musicians as “bad,” and because of their influence, the public tends to accept such opinions without question.
Those people are misleading the industry and the people will believe their version. I wouldn’t say they have used their influence badly, but they haven’t focused on the things they should be focusing on.
The singer further noted that while social media platforms like TikTok have given everyone a chance to express their opinions, not all voices carry the same weight. He emphasized that those with larger platforms and influence have a responsibility, which he believes is currently being misused.
Kitaka also addressed the growing perception that Uganda lacks talented musicians, dismissing it as a misguided narrative.
People think there are no good musicians in Uganda yet they are here. Music in general has a lot of parts. There’s MDD, some do music, some add drama to it, and others do all three.
