Maro has opened up about the role Daddy Andre played in shaping his early music career, revealing that the now celebrated producer and artist was instrumental in pushing his music before he rose to fame.
Speaking during a sit-down interview with a YouTuber, Maro recounted how his journey intertwined with Daddy Andre long before either of them became household names.
At the time, Maro says he was already active in music and video production, which led him to connect with Andre through his late older brother, OJ.
According to Maro, OJ was skilled in video production and often helped him with editing work. Through these interactions, Daddy Andre got exposed to Maro’s music and quickly developed an interest in it.
I was older than them and we linked up with his late older brother OJ who was into video production and I was also doing the same at the time. His brother would help me edit, so Andre liked my song and took it to a producer called Dre in Kabowa.
Maro revealed that the producer reworked the track, creating a new beat and tasking Daddy Andre with convincing him to re-record the song.
Dre did a remix beat for it and told Andre to come and convince me to voice on the new beat. Andre was the reason I got my breakthrough.
The song in question was “Tonelaga,” which Maro later remixed alongside his friends, including Empress. The decision proved to be a turning point in his career.
When we did that remix, the song became big, border to border.
He credits Daddy Andre’s belief in the song and effort in pushing it to the right people as a major factor behind its success, noting that without his involvement, the breakthrough might not have come as early as it did.
