Musician Kalifah AgaNaga has credited politically active artists for playing a key role in influencing the Copyright and Neighbouring Rights (Amendment) Bill, 2025.
While appearing on Galaxy TV’s Rewind show, AgaNaga noted that artists who have stepped into politics have significantly contributed to pushing the conversation forward, even creating pressure within Parliament to address copyright concerns.
According to him, his own political ambitions reflect this commitment. During his bid for a parliamentary seat in the 2026 elections, he included advocating for stronger copyright protections as part of his manifesto, aiming to support fellow creatives.
The UNMF has done a great job but also artists like us who have been active in politics are the real force behind passing this copyright bill.
AgaNaga further revealed that he explained to his political party, Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), that the growing number of artists joining politics stems from frustration.
He argued that many leaders in power fail to recognize artistry as a legitimate profession and source of income, something that has motivated creatives to push harder for policy change.
