Singer D Star, famed for the hit song Hoozambe, has publicly criticized fellow artist Mudra D’Viral, accusing him of withholding royalties from their remix collaboration.
According to information gathered, the remix accumulated over 14 million views within two years after being uploaded on Mudra D’Viral’s YouTube channel.
Based on industry estimates, the song is believed to have generated between Shs140 million and Shs158 million in revenue during that period.
However, D Star claims he never received any share of the earnings despite contributing to the project.
He alleges that when he reached out to Mudra seeking clarification about the royalties, his efforts were ignored.
Shortly afterward, the song was reportedly removed from Mudra’s channel, further fueling his frustration.
The singer expressed deep disappointment, saying he is struggling financially while someone he considered a friend benefited from their joint effort.
I’ve come out to express myself about the Hoozambe song. It’s been two years since its release. I didn’t have any pain before, but today this has touched me deeply.
You’re enjoying over Shs140 million while I’m here suffering and failing to even afford rent. Do you want me to become a thief? What do you want me to do?
Following his outcry, fellow musician AgaNaga advised him to reorganize his music distribution and properly manage his streaming platforms moving forward, so he can directly benefit from his work.
AgaNaga also comforted D Star, assuring him that despite the setback he faced in his dealings with Mudra, all hope is not lost and better opportunities still lie ahead.
