Fashion meets film at elevated cinema experience in Kampala – Sqoop

It was a fitting way to usher in a new month, an evening where cinema met high fashion, far removed from the usual popcorn-and-slushies routine.

At Century Cinemax, the space was transformed into an editorial-inspired runway, awash with deep emerald tones reminiscent of Tanqueray London Dry Gin. The ambience struck a balance between luxury and creativity, setting the tone for a night that blurred the lines between film and fashion.

Guests were welcomed by avant-garde signage styled like a runway magazine cover, instantly signalling that this was no ordinary movie screening. The dress code followed suit: office chic with a dramatic edge. No ball gowns, just bold, expressive fashion statements.

Stepping onto the red carpet felt more like entering a film set than a cinema. Camera flashes lit up every detail, capturing the textures, silhouettes and confidence that defined the night.

The Looks

Inspired by the newly released The Devil Wears Prada 2, editorial fashion took centre stage. With few fashion-forward cinema experiences in Kampala, attendees rose to the occasion.

Pinstripe suits paired with draped coats, statement hairstyles and bold accessories dominated the scene, often finished with striking red accents. The result was a fusion of classic tailoring and contemporary flair.

Among the standout guests were Salim Fidah and Tazibone Solomon, who embraced tailored looks with deep V-cuts and short-sleeve suits, blending structure with relaxed sophistication.

African prints also made a strong showing, reinforcing their place at the heart of modern Ugandan couture. From vibrant patterns to innovative cuts, the designs celebrated both heritage and evolution in style.

Beyond the Screen

More than just a screening, the event created an immersive fashion experience, one where style was as important as the film itself.

For many, it was a refreshing shift, proof that cinema in Kampala can be reimagined into something more interactive, expressive and culturally resonant.

As the night unfolded, one thing was clear: this was not just about watching a film. It was about stepping into it.
