What should have been a breakthrough story of hustle meeting success is now turning into a cautionary tale.
D Star, the voice behind the viral street anthem Hoozambe, has come out with explosive claims against fellow artiste Mudra D’ Viral, accusing him of pocketing millions from the song while leaving him with nothing but fame and frustration.
In an emotionally charged video making rounds online, D Star painted a grim picture of his current reality. Despite being the original force behind one of Uganda’s most recognizable viral hits in recent years, he says he is struggling to stay afloat and is now facing possible eviction over unpaid rent.
“I have a lot of pain because this song changed my life, but I’ve not benefited from it financially,” he said, his voice heavy with disappointment.
Hoozambe first caught fire on TikTok nearly two years ago, organically growing into a street anthem that dominated clubs, airwaves, and social media trends across Uganda and beyond. Its raw energy and catchy hook turned D Star into a household name so much that fans began referring to him simply as “Hoozambe.”
But the song’s trajectory shifted into overdrive when Mudra D’ Viral jumped onto the remix, bringing with him industry weight and wider reach.
The remix exploded, racking up millions of streams and performances, cementing Hoozambe as more than just a viral moment.
D Star alleges that while the remix opened doors and generated substantial revenue, reportedly over Shs140 million, he was left out of the financial rewards entirely.
“Mudra made money from Hoozambe. He has earned over Shs140 million from it,” D Star claimed. “I even performed at his Lugogo concert and wasn’t paid anything.”
His frustration doesn’t end there. The singer says even his own friends and family had to buy tickets to attend the concert where he performed, a detail that seems to sting just as much as the alleged financial exclusion.
