Spice lands in Uganda as star-studded Lugogo concert takes shape – Sqoop

Uganda’s entertainment scene is stepping into a global spotlight as Jamaican dancehall star Spice officially touched down in Kampala ahead of her highly anticipated concert slated for May 9, 2026 at Lugogo Cricket Oval.

Her arrival, confirmed during a press conference at the Nile Breweries Limited head offices in Luzira, signals more than just a performance. It marks the beginning of a carefully curated cultural moment blending music, tourism, and national identity.

Organised under Nile Special in partnership with Africa One Tours and Travel Limited through its lifestyle arm Safari Beats, the event has evolved from a postponed December 2025 show into what is now shaping up to be one of the biggest live music experiences on Uganda’s 2026 calendar.

At the heart of it all is a powerful celebration of female artistry. Spice will headline a lineup that brings together some of Uganda’s most influential women on stage, including Cindy Sanyu, Karole Kasita, and Winnie Nwagi. The supporting cast extends the energy further, with performances expected from Ziza Bafana, Navio, Mark D Urban, and top DJs including Slick Stuart and Naselow.

Yet beyond the music, this visit is being framed as an immersive Ugandan experience.

According to organisers, Spice’s itinerary stretches far beyond the stage. It includes cultural engagements, media appearances, and a headline tourism excursion to Murchison Falls National Park, positioning Uganda not just as a performance destination but as a story worth experiencing.

Speaking at the press briefing, Nile Special Brand Manager Eric Malinga emphasized that the initiative is about more than entertainment.

“What we are building goes beyond a single night. It is about aligning with boldness, excellence, and authenticity. Spice represents that globally, while our local artists reflect it in shaping Uganda’s sound and identity,” he said.

For the brand, the concert becomes a platform to celebrate Ugandan pride while delivering a premium experience that resonates from arrival to the final encore.

Spice herself echoed this sentiment, expressing excitement about connecting with Ugandan fans and exploring the country.

“From the moment I arrived, the energy and warmth have been incredible. This is not just about performing. It is about connecting, experiencing the culture, and celebrating music’s power to bring people together,” she said.

Behind the scenes, Safari Beats is driving a broader vision. CEO Paula Nahamya described the week’s programming as intentional storytelling, where music opens the door but Uganda becomes the lasting impression.

From heritage site visits to wildlife exploration, the aim is to create moments that travel far beyond Kampala’s borders.

As anticipation builds toward May 9, the event will culminate in a full-day experience, beginning with a soundcheck session and closing with an official after-party in the city.

Supported by partners including the Uganda Tourism Board, the Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities, Uganda Wildlife Authority, Uganda Airlines, and the Buganda Heritage and Tourism Board, the concert is being positioned as a landmark moment where entertainment, culture, and destination marketing converge.
