But just as quickly as the defiance made headlines, the script flipped. Barely a day later, Maulana softened his stance, hinting at a possible alignment with the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM). The twist? His support now hangs on an unlikely trigger. English football.
“If Arsenal F.C. wins any trophy this season, I will support NRM,” he declared during the Zzina Carnival.
It’s a condition that feels half-serious, half-satirical, much like Maulana himself. Arsenal’s long-standing reputation for near-misses adds another layer of irony to the pledge, turning what could be a firm political stance into something closer to a running joke.
