‘He went behind my back’: D Star blames Mudra for botched Mejja remix – Sqoop

For many artists, some career regrets are hidden behind silence. But for rising singer D Star, one missed collaboration still sounds painfully loud years later.

The Hozambe singer has opened up about a failed remix opportunity involving Kenyan star Mejja, revealing how what looked like a promising East African crossover slowly collapsed behind the scenes.

Speaking emotionally about the experience in a video, D Star pointed fingers at singer and songwriter Mudra D Viral, accusing him of mishandling communication during negotiations for the remix.

According to D Star, the opportunity came during his first trip to Kenya, at a time when Hozambe was still gaining momentum beyond Uganda’s borders. The singer says Mejja had genuinely shown interest in joining the remix and had already started participating in the process.

“My first trip to Kenya, I was supposed to do the remix with Mejja, but Mudra, you went behind my back,” D Star said. “Mejja wanted to do the remix with me.”

What makes the story more heartbreaking for the singer is how close the collaboration allegedly came to happening. D Star claims Mejja had already recorded voice notes and ideas that were sent to DJ Horace for production arrangements before the entire plan suddenly changed direction.

But somewhere along the way, the remix reportedly shifted focus. D Star believes that decision altered the chemistry of the project and caused Mejja to lose interest completely.

The singer did not hide his disappointment while reflecting on the lost moment. In his view, a collaboration with Mejja at the peak of Hozambe’s regional buzz could have elevated his career to another level entirely.

“I blame you for the failure of that collaboration,” he said. “Just imagine where I would be if I had done the remix with Mejja.”
