Newcomer DJ Apple 256 draws inspiration from South African DJ Uncle Waffles

The Ugandan entertainment industry is witnessing a growing number of female public figures transitioning into deejaying, signaling what many observers describe as the latest trend on the nightlife scene.

One of the newest entrants, DJ Apple 256, born Apple Nakate, has opened up about her journey into the fast-growing profession.

Speaking to the media, DJ Apple 256 revealed that her interest in deejaying developed over the past three years as she closely watched Ugandan DJs perform at different events and entertainment spots.

She explained that the turning point came when her new manager suggested she venture into DJing, an idea she embraced wholeheartedly.

The budding DJ noted that her biggest inspiration comes from South African sensation Uncle Waffles, saying that while Uganda boasts many talented DJs, none personally inspires her style and approach.

In Uganda, we have very many DJs and they are doing a great job, but there’s no one who inspires me personally. Uncle Waffles does it for me. I admire what Ugandan DJs do, but my inspiration comes from outside.

DJ Apple 256 added that she has been practicing for about three weeks and quickly gained confidence behind the decks.

She recently landed her first performance gig in Jinja, describing it as one of the best experiences since beginning her DJ career.

She emphasized that her DJ sets are fully live mixes rather than pre-recorded performances, noting that she trained under some of the best DJs in town as she continues to sharpen her craft.
