Gym is not for smart wires only, pay attention to your mental health – Chozen Blood urges young men

Ugandan singer Chozen Blood, real name Patrick Musasizi, urges the youths to pay attention to their mental well-being and include physical exercises in their daily activity to stay healthy and sane.

After a thorough depression that he went through during the COVID19 lockdown, Chozen Blood hit the gym, and he says it saved him from a dark path in his life.

Later, he formed a group of friends with similar fitness goals, and together they established an initiative (Sweat-tainment) to rally more youths to pay attention and keep their mental health in check through physical exercises.

In a brief chat with Mbu, Chozen Blood, with whom we caught up at Kash Gym, Muyenga, also urged young people to be courageous and speak up about their lives with their friends to avoid depression and its worst dangers.

I used to think the gym was a thing for “smart wires”, boys who want to show off, but it’s more than that. I have a story I will tell one day about how physical exercises helped me out of depression.

I keep myself in the gym because I realised the mind decides everything you do in life, but we rarely pay attention to its wellness. When I come to the gym, it often changes my mood and takes away the bad energy.
