Sheilah Gashumba hails A Pass as Uganda’s most professional male artist – Sqoop

Media personality Sheilah Gashumba has showered praise on singer A Pass, describing him as one of the most professional, disciplined and talented male musicians Uganda has produced.

The television host and influencer made the remarks after booking the singer for Guvnor’s Saturday Night Fever, an experience she says left her thoroughly impressed and changed her perspective on live performances in Uganda.

In a glowing social media post shared after the event, Sheilah applauded A Pass for his commitment to his craft, revealing that the singer went above and beyond expectations without needing constant reminders or management pressure.

“There’s no male Ugandan artist as professional, disciplined about his music career and talented like A Pass,” she wrote, before detailing what stood out for her during the booking process.

According to Sheilah, the “Tuli Kubigere” hitmaker personally promoted the event on his platforms, recorded promotional drops for the night without being prompted and arrived at the venue an hour before his scheduled performance, fully prepared for the show.

What impressed her even more, she said, was the singer’s decision to show up with his own music technician and perform with live instrumental sound rather than relying entirely on playback.

For many revellers at Guvnor, the setup offered a rare chance to experience A Pass’s vocals more authentically, with his voice taking centre stage throughout the performance.

“Everyone was happy and complimenting his performance. A Pass deserves his flowers. BOOK HIM!” Sheilah concluded.

The praise did not go unnoticed by the singer. A Pass later reposted Sheilah Gashumba’s message on his social media platforms, responding with a brief but appreciative caption, saying he was “humbled” by the recognition. The gesture was seen by many fans as a reflection of the humility that has also contributed to his enduring appeal.

Her remarks quickly sparked reactions online, with many social media users agreeing with her assessment and praising the singer for maintaining consistency in an industry where professionalism is often questioned.

For years, A Pass, born Alexander Bagonza, has built a reputation as one of Uganda’s most versatile musicians, blending dancehall, reggae, Afrobeat and soulful melodies into a sound uniquely his own. The singer first honed his musical abilities through church singing before gradually growing into one of the country’s most respected performers.

His rise to fame came through songs such as Tuli Kubigere, Wuuyo, Bartender, Didadada, Gamululu, and Mariana, songs that helped cement his place among Uganda’s elite entertainers. Over the years, he has also earned praise for his songwriting ability, even writing music for fellow artists including Bebe Cool.

Last year, A Pass achieved another career milestone when he staged his first major concert at the Kampala Serena Hotel, an event that many viewed as a celebration of his growth, artistry and staying power in Uganda’s competitive music industry. The concert showcased his catalogue through live instrumentation and attracted fellow musicians and fans who turned up to celebrate his musical journey.

While Uganda’s entertainment industry often thrives on controversy and fleeting trends, Sheilah Gashumba’s endorsement has reignited conversations around professionalism and stage discipline, with many fans arguing that talent alone is no longer enough and that artists who respect their craft deserve recognition.

Judging by the reaction in the comment section, many seem to agree with her on one thing: when it comes to live performance and work ethic, A Pass may indeed be in a lane of his own.
