Robert Kabushenga, former CEO of Vision Group, says he wants to lead Ugandan football.
In a post on X, Kabushenga announced he is available to run for president of the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA).
He claims he tried to contest for the same position in June 2013, but the rules were changed to block him.
“The law was quickly amended to keep me out,” he wrote. “I am back to say I am still available for that task. I can bring about the footballing glory all we Ugandans dream of. Time to save our football from thieves. Let’s take back our game.”
Kabushenga says he now understands what the job requires and is ready to take it on.
The current FUFA president is Moses Magogo, who was re-elected and will serve until 2029. Uganda is entering a key period for football, with preparations underway for co-hosting the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.
Kabushenga’s announcement has sparked debate among fans and the public about what his possible run could mean for the future of the game.
The timing is also sensitive for Magogo. His wife, former Speaker of Parliament Anita Among, is under investigation for corruption and alleged illicit wealth. Security agencies have recently searched some of her homes and offices.
No allegations have been made against Magogo himself. But the investigations have drawn attention to him, with some observers speculating about how it could affect his leadership at FUFA.
