Starking Boycrak: Rising rap star balances academics and music in Uganda

Starking Boycrak is a Central African Republic artist based in Uganda who has steadily built a name for himself through hard-core rap music that speaks about everyday life, struggles, and the realities facing the Gen Z generation.

Starking Boycrak moved to Uganda nine years ago as a student and later pursued higher education at Cavendish University Uganda, where he completed a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science.

His love for Uganda inspired him to extend his stay and further upgrade to a Master’s degree.

For the past eight years, he has balanced both academics and music, spending most of his time between school and the recording studio.

Despite being based in Uganda, Starking commands a huge fan base in the Central African Republic, where many young people relate deeply to his lyrical content and authentic storytelling.

During his stay in Uganda, Starking Boycrak has produced two music albums while collaborating with various Ugandan producers and sound engineers.

His debut studio album, Langage C, introduced fans to his breakout hit song “Batista,” a track that became a massive success in his home country.

The audio recording, mastering, and visuals for the project were all produced in Uganda, helping him gain wider recognition across the region.

He later followed it up with his second album, Reboot, released in 2025. Several songs from the project have enjoyed rotation on Trace East Africa and Trace Urban, further cementing his growing influence in African music circles.

Although he occasionally travels back to the Central African Republic, Starking remains strongly connected to Uganda’s entertainment industry.

Recently, he opened a music studio in Kampala known as Le Doc Records, located in Kisaasi, with the aim of nurturing and supporting young talent.

The studio has attracted respected music figures, including veteran producer Washington and several other notable Kampala-based producers who regularly collaborate with him.
