Singer Karole Kasita has received official clearance from the Ministry of Health to proceed with her highly anticipated concert scheduled for Friday at Kampala Serena Hotel, easing days of uncertainty surrounding the event.
Questions had emerged over whether the show, dubbed Women Power Within, would go ahead following heightened public concern over Ebola prevention measures at large gatherings.
However, in a letter addressed to Karole Kasita’s management team led by manager Arnold Ssempijja, alias Apple, the Ministry of Health confirmed that the concert can proceed provided organisers strictly follow public health guidelines.
“The Ministry of Health appreciates your measures undertaken and notifying the Ministry on organizing the Women Power Within event at Serena Hotel, an event that attracts mass gatherings,” part of the letter reads.
The ministry said approval was granted on condition that organisers comply with all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) governing mass gatherings, alongside public health measures related to Ebola prevention and control.
Organisers have also been advised to work closely with Dr JB Waiaye Nambohe, Commissioner for Emergency Medical Services, who is currently overseeing the Mass Gathering Sub-Pillar under the national Ebola response framework.
“You are further advised to work closely with Dr JB Waiaye Nambohe, Commissioner Emergency Medical Services, who is currently overseeing the Mass Gathering Sub-Pillar under the national Ebola response, for any technical guidance and coordination necessary to ensure compliance and public safety during the event,” a letter signed by Director General of Health Services Prof Charles Olaro states.
The clearance paves the way for what is expected to be one of Karole Kasita’s biggest performances yet.
The “Balance” singer has spent weeks rallying fans for the concert, which is expected to celebrate women in entertainment through music, performance and high-energy stage production.
Still, organisers will now face the added responsibility of ensuring strict compliance with health and safety measures throughout the event.
For Karole Kasita and her fans, however, the biggest takeaway is simple: the show is officially on.
The Women Power Within concert marks Karole Kasita’s second major concert and will be produced by Fenon Premium Events.
