Kyambogo comes alive in epic weekend of games, music and wild celebration – Sqoop

What began as a laid-back weekend gathering quickly transformed into one of Kyambogo’s most unforgettable student experiences as the Captain Morgan Sports Takeover stormed Servite Hostel gardens in a thrilling collision of games, music and unapologetic celebration.

Last weekend, students at Kyambogo were treated to an immersive experience where competition met rhythm, and playful energy seamlessly evolved into an all-out party.

Throughout the day, the gardens buzzed with excitement as students and curious onlookers poured into the venue, drawn by an exciting mix of interactive games and entertainment. From card games and Jenga battles to board games and oversized versions of childhood favourites like Ludo and Snakes & Ladders, the setup turned the hostel grounds into a giant adult playground.

Laughter echoed between groups as playful rivalries emerged, while spontaneous banter and shared moments quickly turned strangers into teammates.

And, of course, no Captain Morgan experience would be complete without the signature toasts.

Across the venue, Captain Morgan moments sparked conversations and connections, with students raising glasses between games as the atmosphere steadily intensified.

According to Raymond Karama, Captain Morgan Brand Manager, the takeover was designed to encourage self-expression, spontaneity and collective celebration.

“We are all about championing the unique spice everyone brings to the table, and seeing students embrace spontaneous fun, step out of their comfort zones, and celebrate together through party and play is exactly what this takeover is about,” Karama said.

As daylight faded, the energy shifted gears.

The playful competition slowly gave way to celebration as music took centre stage.

Reedeejay kicked off the night segment with an electrifying dancehall mix that immediately changed the mood, setting the tone for what would become a high-energy evening. On the microphone, MC Ursh Trey kept spirits high, commanding the crowd with humour and infectious energy.

Then came DJ Wiz J.

And with him arrived what many would later describe as pure beautiful chaos.

Somewhere between booming basslines and crowd chants, an unexpected twerk contest erupted, drawing laughter, cheers and unfiltered excitement from students who had long abandoned any intentions of standing still.

Seizing the moment, St Trevor rallied the crowd into a communal Captain Morgan toast, uniting the venue in one giant celebration as DJ Wiz J pushed the tempo even higher.

The live performances only amplified the madness.

CxJ Powell stormed the stage with songs off his latest EP, turning the venue into an electric atmosphere of singing, jumping and nonstop movement.

By the time Sean Offixial took over, the crowd had fully surrendered to the moment, dancing wildly to crowd favourites, including the hit anthem In Da Bar.

As midnight edged closer, DJ Dreadlazer kept the momentum alive, ensuring the dancefloor energy stretched deep into the night.

Long after the music stopped, the feeling lingered.

If the walls of Servite Hostel could talk this week, they would probably still be replaying echoes of laughter, dance battles, game victories and a crowd that simply refused to sit down.

The Captain came.

The Captain conquered.

And somewhere along the way, the Captain poured another round.

By the end of it all, the Sports Takeover had done exactly what it promised, turning an ordinary Kyambogo weekend into a story students will likely keep retelling long after the semester ends.
