Veteran singer Papa Cidy has made a public appeal to Jose Chameleone, asking the Leone Island boss to address outstanding royalty payments and performance fees linked to projects they worked on together.
In a message directed to Chameleone, Papa Cidy struck a respectful tone, describing the singer as a good person while urging him to revisit the business side of their long-standing musical relationship.
According to Papa Cidy, songs they recorded together, including the popular Daniela, were uploaded on Chameleone’s platforms despite the investment he says he made towards the projects. He now wants a share of the royalties generated from the music.
“I believe I deserve a paycheck from royalties’ collection. You know how much I invested in those projects,” Papa Cidy wrote.
The singer also revealed that he was allegedly never paid for a performance alongside Chameleone in London, a matter that appears to have left him frustrated.
“Even the last time we performed together in London, I was never paid. Ffe tunaapatikanira nga bwerere?” he asked, loosely translated as, “How are we supposed to survive if we keep working for free?”
He urged Chameleone to resolve such matters while all parties are still alive, referencing the recent outpouring of tributes following the death of comedian Master Parrot.
“I am only asking for fairness and for us to resolve these issues while we are all still here,” he wrote. “I hope it doesn’t take a situation where someone passes away before appreciation and recognition are shown.”
The appeal has sparked discussion among fans, with many calling for artists to formalize business arrangements and royalty-sharing structures to avoid disputes years after collaborations are released.
