Light Production boss Abdul Mulaasi has spoken about what he believes are widespread witchcraft practices in Uganda’s music industry, claiming that some artists fall victim to spiritual manipulation through alcohol abuse.
Drawing from his years of experience in the entertainment business, Mulaasi said there are various ways in which alleged voodoo practices are carried out within the industry.
Speaking during an interview, the veteran singer claimed that some artists are bewitched through alcohol, which eventually leads them into excessive drinking and causes them to lose focus on their music careers.
As an example, Mulaasi pointed to singer Kemi Sera, describing her as beautiful, gifted, and talented, but alleging that she was negatively affected through alcohol-related influences.
There are several artists here who were bewitched through alcohol, and one of them is Kemi Sera. She is beautiful, talented, and everything about her is good.
The “Farm” singer explained that he became aware of what he believes was Kemi Sera’s struggle after she returned from South Africa and joined his band.
According to Mulaasi, a series of unusual incidents reportedly occurred whenever they traveled for performances together.
He claimed they frequently got lost on their way to shows, arrived late at venues, and sometimes encountered chaotic situations upon arrival, including fights and damaged property.
I tried my level best to help Kemi Sera after she returned from South Africa when she joined my band. While we were working together, we got lost more than four times when we were scheduled to perform. We would arrive late at show venues, sometimes find people fighting, and other times find property had been vandalized.
Mulaasi further revealed that Kemi Sera herself allegedly began questioning whether she was the source of the recurring challenges, while some members of his band pointed out that they had previously operated smoothly before her arrival.
She told me that maybe she was the one with something wrong, and my band members also told me that we had been working smoothly before she joined us.
