Singer Cindy Sanyu has opened up about her fallout with fellow musician Omega 256, revealing that disagreements over ownership, recognition, and revenue from their hit collaboration See You Tonight strained their relationship.
Speaking during a recent interview, Cindy claimed tensions between the two camps first emerged when the pair started receiving awards for the song, which became one of the standout collaborations in Uganda’s music scene.
According to Cindy, disagreements arose over who deserved greater recognition for the project despite the song being released under her initiative.
“We got a couple of issues after, but it’s stuff I don’t want to talk about. When we got our award for See You Tonight, her team claimed that they should be the ones taking the award. Every time we got an award, they felt like they should be the ones, but the song is mine,” Cindy said.
The singer explained that the situation left her disappointed because, in her view, she had played the biggest role in bringing the project to life.
Cindy claimed she sourced the songwriter, developed the song in her studio, and oversaw much of the creative process behind the collaboration. She further alleged that Omega’s team did not contribute financially to the production of the track.
Beyond the creative disagreements, Cindy admitted that what she initially viewed as an act of goodwill may have later worked against her.
In a bid to support Omega’s career growth, Cindy said she made the decision to upload the song on Omega 256’s YouTube channel instead of her own, believing the younger singer stood to benefit more from the exposure.
“I made a mistake out of my kindness and we split on her channel. I didn’t want to take the attention away from her, so I decided we put it on her page because she needed the song more than I did. Even when it came to distribution of the song, she went way ahead of me,” she said.
Cindy further revealed that both artists had reportedly signed a revenue-sharing agreement entitling each of them to 50 percent of the earnings generated by the song.
However, she alleges that after the song was released and distributed, the agreed terms were not fully respected.
According to Cindy, Omega eventually received 60 percent of the song’s earnings, leaving her with 40 percent despite the prior agreement.
The claims add another layer to the long-rumoured fallout between the two singers, whose collaboration was once celebrated by fans as one of the strongest female music partnerships in the industry. Omega 256 has not publicly responded to Cindy’s allegations.
