Entertainers, including Sheilah Gashumba and Big Eye Starboss, have raised their voices in demanding justice for the late Uganda Rugby Cranes and Black Pirates player, Sydney Gongodyo, who succumbed to injuries of mob justice near TMT Supermarket in Bukoto on Friday, 5th June 2026.
Sydney Gongodyo Death
Syndey Gongodyo (27) was pronounced dead on Friday after being lynched by a mob. At the sendoff, held at Kings Park Arena on Sunday, Sydney Gongodyo’s father revealed how CCTV footage exonerated their son from earlier allegations that he had snatched a bag from a woman.
Sorrowfully, he narrated how the footage shows that Sydney was only caught in the wrong place at the wrong time because the actual thief who snatched a bag got onto a waiting boda boda and was whisked away, leaving his son, who had just happened to be in the same vicinity, at the hands of the angry mob.
Police Make Arrests
On Saturday, the Uganda Police revealed that arrests had been made and three suspects linked to the murder of Sydney Gongodyo, including Ssebagala Noordin, Ayebazibwe Roden, and Namukose Juliet, had been apprehended.
“Preliminary investigations indicate that the deceased was allegedly subjected to mob action by members of the public who accused him of snatching a woman’s handbag,” Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson Racheal Kawala revealed.
Celebrities Demand Justice
Sheilah Gashumba has used her X handle to ask the police to do everything possible and ensure that Sydney Gongodyo’s family gets the justice their fallen son deserves.

I’m begging Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, Chris O Magezi to look into this matter and question the police and make sure Sydney gets justice!!

Singer Big Eye Starboss has also released a video on his Instagram account in which he speaks against mob justice, exposing the new tactic thieves and gangs have started, which is ending so many innocent people’s lives.
Syndey Gongodyo will be laid to rest on Tuesday in Buweri Town Council, Budadiri County, Sironko District, but police continue with the investigations. May His Soul Rest In Peace.
