Singer Dre Cali has finally addressed the circumstances surrounding his move from Uganda to Canada, dismissing allegations that he pretended to be ill in order to obtain a visa.
Speaking in an interview with Kaiyz, the singer explained that his relocation was motivated by the search for better opportunities and a more secure future. The move also brought his working relationship with fellow musician and Mpaka Records boss Ykee Benda to an end.
For years, Ykee Benda has publicly stated that he invested heavily in Dre Cali’s career before the singer unexpectedly relocated to Canada, a decision that attracted criticism and sparked speculation among fans.
Reflecting on the choice he made, Dre Cali said he had to prioritize his own wellbeing and future, adding that anyone faced with similar circumstances might have made the same decision.
He explained that certain situations can force a person to focus on self-preservation, insisting that he simply did what he believed was necessary at the time.
The singer also acknowledged the continued public curiosity surrounding his departure but maintained that some details are too personal to disclose.
According to Dre Cali, there were private factors behind his relocation that he prefers to keep to himself. Despite the controversy, he said he has no regrets about settling in Canada and remains convinced that it was the right move.
He added that he intends to keep those reasons private for the rest of his life, emphasizing that not every chapter of his journey is meant for public consumption.
