Elon Musk becomes world’s first trillionaire – Sqoop

Elon Musk has reached a milestone once thought to belong only in science fiction.

With SpaceX making its long-awaited stock market debut, the entrepreneur’s net worth has crossed the $1 trillion mark, making him the first person in history to attain trillionaire status.

The historic moment came as SpaceX began trading on the Nasdaq under the ticker symbol SPCX, with the offering immediately rewriting records on Wall Street.

The company offered 555.6 million shares priced at $135 each, raising approximately $75 billion and surpassing Saudi Aramco’s 2019 listing as the largest Initial Public Offering (IPO) ever completed.

By the time trading began, SpaceX commanded a market valuation of $1.77 trillion, placing it among the world’s most valuable companies.

The company behind the fortune

SpaceX reported revenue of $18.7 billion in 2025, representing a 33 percent increase from the previous year.

A significant portion of that growth came from Starlink, the satellite internet business that has expanded to millions of subscribers worldwide and now contributes nearly a quarter of the company’s revenue.

Despite the strong top-line growth, SpaceX still posted a net loss of $4.9 billion last year, underscoring the enormous investment costs associated with rocket launches, satellite deployment and long-term ambitions in space exploration.

How Musk crossed the trillion-dollar mark

Musk’s fortune is heavily concentrated in SpaceX.

He owns approximately 4.8 billion shares in the company, representing roughly 42 percent ownership, in addition to stock options exercisable at significantly lower prices.

At the IPO valuation, his SpaceX holdings account for the largest portion of his wealth, dwarfing even his stake in Tesla.

Combined with his interests in Tesla and other ventures, Musk’s net worth has now surpassed $1.1 trillion.

The milestone places him in a category previously occupied by no one.

A wealth gap unlike any before

Even before the SpaceX listing, Musk’s fortune already exceeded that of any other individual on the planet.

According to Forbes estimates prior to the IPO, he was already worth more than twice the wealth of the world’s second-richest individuals.

The latest surge has widened that gap even further, creating a level of personal wealth without historical precedent.

A trillion dollars is larger than the annual economic output of many countries and represents a scale of wealth that would have seemed unimaginable only a few decades ago.

Thousands of employees share in the gains

The benefits of the listing are not limited to Musk.

Thousands of current and former SpaceX employees who received stock-based compensation are expected to benefit from the company’s public debut.

Many early workers accepted lower salaries in exchange for equity when SpaceX was still a risky startup with uncertain prospects.

For those employees, the company’s rise represents one of the largest wealth-creation events in modern corporate history.

Questions over power and governance

Not everyone has welcomed the IPO without reservations.

Some institutional investors have raised concerns about governance provisions that concentrate significant control in Musk’s hands, including the use of super-voting shares and restrictions on shareholder disputes.

Critics argue that such arrangements give ordinary investors limited influence despite providing much of the capital supporting the company.

More than a personal milestone

The SpaceX debut could mark the beginning of a new era in global markets.

With artificial intelligence companies and other technology giants expected to seek public listings in the coming years, analysts believe the boundaries of corporate valuations and personal fortunes may continue to expand.

For now, however, Musk stands alone.

For centuries, the world’s wealthiest individuals were measured in millions. In recent decades, they were measured in billions.

Elon Musk is the first person to be measured in thousands of billions.
