For years, Grace Nakimera‘s secular hits belonged to a chapter many fans assumed she had left behind.
Now, the singer says those songs are coming back to the stage.
As preparations intensify for her September 11 concert, “The Power of Grace,” Nakimera has revealed that fans should expect a setlist that stretches across both sides of her musical journey, from the dancehall tracks that first made her a star to the gospel music that later transformed her career.
The announcement answers a question that has followed the singer ever since she embraced a born-again lifestyle: Would she ever perform her old secular songs again?
According to Nakimera, the answer is yes.
She told Sanyuka TV that every song in her catalogue represents a different season of her life and forms part of her journey.
All the songs are mine. No one is demanding me.
The decision is likely to spark debate among some believers who associate Nakimera primarily with gospel ministry, while delighting fans who grew up on the dancehall hits that dominated radio and nightlife during her peak years.
Yet the singer insists revisiting those songs does not mean revisiting the image that once accompanied them.
Nakimera said audiences should expect a performer who has changed with time and experience.
I do not need to be indecent. Besides, I am now all grown up. How will you see me naked? It will be so embarrassing for me. I can dress modestly and at the same time deliver an amazing performance.
In other words, the songs may return, but the Grace Nakimera performing them is no longer the same woman who first recorded them.
That balance between past and present could ultimately become one of the most intriguing elements of “The Power of Grace.”
