Khalifa Aganaga says ‘Nassanga’ comeback signals end of bubble gum music – Sqoop

Ugandan musician Khalifa Aganaga believes the renewed popularity of Nassanga is a sign that music lovers are growing weary of what he describes as “bubble gum music” dominating the industry.

Speaking during an interview on KFM, Aganaga said audiences had become frustrated with what he considers shallow songs and the rise of artistes he believes are receiving opportunities beyond their talent.

According to the singer, the success of Nassanga reflects a desire among listeners to reconnect with music that carries substance and artistry.

“The reason why Nassanga is now hitting is because people were getting bored of the bubble gum music,” Aganaga said. “People were tired of seeing less talented artistes getting privileges like big shows. The industry was getting messed up.”

For Aganaga, the song’s resurgence represents more than nostalgia. He sees it as a reminder of an era when music was valued for its lyrical depth, creativity, and emotional connection rather than social media trends.

He also believes the renewed interest in the song could help inspire younger listeners and upcoming artistes.

“They were like, ‘Let’s bring back Nassanga so that the Gen Zs get inspired,’” he said.

The singer revealed that the wave surrounding the song has already had a direct impact on his own career.

Nassanga maybe will save them like it has saved me,” he added.

Riding on the momentum generated by the song’s comeback, Aganaga has announced the Nassanga Festival, which is scheduled to take place on August 1 at Lweza Forest Resort.

The event is expected to capitalize on the growing popularity of the track, which has unexpectedly found new life years after its original release.
