Veteran musician Mesach Semakula has reflected on the early days of Eagles Production, revealing how the group’s strong sense of unity helped members overcome financial struggles before success eventually brought new challenges.
Speaking about the collective’s beginnings, Semakula said the members operated like one family and willingly supported one another whenever the need arose.
According to him, the group was still small at the time, making it easier to agree on financial decisions and help members improve their lives.
“When we started, we were few and the group could accommodate all of us. We would contribute money to pay a member’s rent if they were struggling. Even when someone wanted to buy land, we would all agree and put money together to help. We were happy doing it and never had disagreements over sharing,” Semakula said.
However, he explained that things gradually changed as the group expanded and younger members who had joined over the years grew older and developed different responsibilities.
Semakula noted that the needs of the new generation were no longer the same as those of the founding members.
“Those we considered children had grown up and had their own families and responsibilities. They wanted their children to study in the same schools as ours, and that was understandable because we had become successful and they deserved to earn more money,” he said.
Beyond the changing dynamics within the group, Semakula believes rumours and outside influences also played a major role in the eventual collapse of Eagles Production.
According to him, some people were uncomfortable with the unity and success the group enjoyed and deliberately spread stories that created divisions among members.
Despite the breakup, Semakula’s reflections paint a picture of a group that was once built on brotherhood, shared dreams, and a willingness to sacrifice for one another before growth and external pressures altered its course.
