Singer David Lutalo has finally addressed the controversy surrounding a viral moment in which he was seen wiping a microphone moments after fellow musician King Saha had used it.
The incident occurred a few weeks ago during veteran Kadongo Kamu singer Kazibwe Kapo’s press conference, where several artistes had gathered to celebrate the music legend and acknowledge his contribution to Uganda’s entertainment industry.
However, while the event was intended to honour Kapo, one particular moment ended up dominating online conversations.
After King Saha concluded his remarks and handed over the microphone, David Lutalo was seen wiping it with part of his outfit before addressing the audience. The gesture quickly sparked mixed reactions on social media, with some users interpreting it as a sign of disrespect toward Saha and speculating about possible tension between the two singers.
Responding to the criticism, the “Kwasa” hitmaker dismissed claims of bad blood, insisting that his actions were purely motivated by health concerns and not personal differences.
According to Lutalo, cleaning or sanitising microphones before using them has become a routine habit whenever he appears in public.
He explained that with illnesses such as flu, persistent coughs and outbreaks like Ebola remaining a concern, taking extra precautions is necessary.
Lutalo stressed that his intention was never to offend King Saha, but rather to protect himself and others from potential health risks.
The singer further revealed that he not only wipes microphones before using them but also sanitises them before handing them over to the next speaker whenever possible.
He even encouraged fellow artistes, including King Saha, to adopt similar hygiene practices, arguing that simple preventive measures can go a long way in safeguarding people’s health.
Despite the explanation, the incident has continued to generate debate among fans, with some supporting Lutalo’s health-conscious approach while others maintain that the gesture could have been handled more discreetly.
