Ugandan Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja has revealed an inquiry into the misuse of the Shs10 billion grant that the president gave to event promoters.
Speaking to the media on Tuesday, Hon. Nabbanja explained that Shs3 billion of the Shs10 billion had already been sent to the bivulu promoters’ leadership but was shared among just a few people, hence the launch of an audit.
The meeting, convened by Hon. Robinah Nabbanja and featuring reputable event promoters like Balaam Barugahara and Bajjo Events, is aimed at developing strategies for the proper use of the remaining Shs7 billion of the pledge.
The president pledged to give promoters a Ugx10 billion grant to solve their problems. They had reported to him about how they were being cheated by moneylenders, a challenge that affected their line of work.
A few months ago, the promoters received Ugx3 billion, but it was shared amongst a few of them. The president ordered ian audit to find the thieves. He then ordered that we call a meeting with all the promoters and find out how to distribute the remaining Ugx7 billion better, hence this meeting. I am certain that before the end of this week, we shall have settled this matter.
