Hon Tayebwa calls for more DNA tests in Kafeero paternity saga – Sqoop

Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa has renewed calls for further DNA testing in the paternity saga surrounding the late Kadongo Kamu legend Paul Job Kafeero, insisting that the matter cannot be considered fully settled despite the recent forensic findings.

His latest remarks come hours after Minister for Local Government Hon Balaam Barugahara defended the credibility of the DNA exercise, emphasizing that the results had been independently verified by three laboratories—the MBN Laboratory, the Police Forensic Laboratory and the Government Analytical Laboratory.

Balaam was responding to Tayebwa’s earlier skepticism after DNA tests confirmed that only four of the 25 individuals who claimed to be Kafeero’s children were biologically related to the late musician.

Despite the minister’s assurance, Tayebwa maintained that more testing is necessary, arguing that the striking resemblance between some of the unsuccessful claimants and Kafeero cannot simply be ignored.

In a fresh post on X, Tayebwa proposed extending the DNA exercise to include Kafeero’s surviving brothers in what he described as an effort to bring complete closure to the matter.

“I propose we go ahead and do DNA with the rest of Kafeero’s brothers to close this chapter. Otherwise that resemblance cannot be wished away, Comrade Atenyi. Total closure of this matter is needed, especially for those children who are total photocopies of the late. Who fathered them? I trust you on handling such complicated matters and I’m sure you will handle,” Tayebwa wrote.

His comments have reignited debate on social media, where many Ugandans continue to question how several individuals who closely resemble the late singer failed to match his DNA profile.

The controversy began after the Uganda Police Forensic Directorate released the results of DNA tests conducted on 25 claimants seeking recognition as Kafeero’s biological children. The tests confirmed only four as his biological offspring—Simon Peter Kafeero, Elizabeth Nagawa, Thomas Swazi Kafeero and Benedict Kafeero.

While Balaam has insisted that the findings are scientifically sound and backed by three independent laboratories, Tayebwa believes further testing involving members of Kafeero’s immediate family could help eliminate any lingering doubts and bring lasting closure to one of Uganda’s most talked-about paternity disputes.
