The highly publicised paternity dispute involving the late Ugandan Kadongo Kamu legend, Prince Paul Kafeero, has continued to spark mixed reactions across Uganda following the recent release of DNA results.
Over 19 years since the legendary musician’s passing, a family dispute involving over 25 individuals claiming to be his biological children led to a court-sanctioned exhumation of his remains for DNA testing.
The exercise was intended to establish the truth and bring closure to the long-standing family wrangles. The results later confirmed four biological children, while the remaining claimants were excluded.
Kachumbali TV, a platform established in 2020, has spent the past six years serving as a community-based online television platform dedicated to entertainment news and giving a voice to individuals whose stories often go unheard.
Through community storytelling and responsible journalism, the platform has highlighted issues affecting ordinary people across Uganda.
Ivan Kyanzi, the head of Kachumbali TV, has hosted several individuals connected to the late Prince Paul Kafeero’ s family, including Mugerwa Joseph, Nantongo Sarah, Nende Abubaker, and Nantongo Stella, who has publicly identified herself as an abandoned daughter of the late singer, to share their experiences and concerns regarding the ongoing dispute.
While DNA testing remains the accepted scientific method for determining biological relationships, Kyanzi respectfully calls upon the Government of Uganda and the relevant authorities to listen to the concerns raised by the affected families.
“If legally and scientifically appropriate, an independent review or a repeat DNA test conducted by a highly reputable international laboratory could help eliminate any remaining doubts and strengthen public confidence in the outcome,” he stated.
However, if there will be no repeat DNA test, I respectfully appeal to the government to consider the welfare of the other children who have now been excluded. Many of them have lived for years believing they belonged to Prince Paul Kafeero’s family.
As a humanitarian gesture, the government could support them by helping them establish small businesses, providing land, or introducing other livelihood programs to enable them to rebuild their lives with dignity.
The ultimate goal should be justice, transparency, compassion, and lasting peace for the family of the late Prince Paul Kafeero, whose musical legacy continues to inspire generations of Ugandans.
