The internet has been buzzing with excitement over a potential musical showdown between dancehall powerhouse Cindy Sanyu and veteran pop diva Grace Nakimera. However, the ‘King Herself’ has quickly put a damper on those expectations, casting doubt on whether such a clash could ever match the explosive energy of her legendary 2023 battle with Sheebah Karungi.
Speaking during a recent interview on KFM’s K’ Drive, Cindy admitted that while she holds Grace in incredibly high regard, she is struggling to find the creative fire or motivation to step back into the battle arena. According to Cindy, her historic, sold-out clash with Sheebah at the Kololo Airstrip was fueled by genuine, raw emotion and a fierce need to defend her legacy—elements she feels would be completely missing in a face-off with Nakimera.
“The other battle, I had reasons to prove myself, but now I have nothing to prove. That is why I struggle with another battle,” Cindy explained.
The Boom Party hitmaker showered Grace Nakimera with praise, describing her as an amazing artist whom she genuinely loves and respects. Ironically, this mutual respect is exactly what makes the battle a no-go for Cindy. While the Ugandan entertainment industry thrives on rivalries, manufactured tension, and dramatic narratives to sell out premium venues, Cindy insists she isn’t willing to put on an acting masterclass just to hype a concert.
“I love Grace because I think she’s amazing, but with the battle idea, I feel there is nothing to fight for,” Cindy said. “I am not a fake person because there are going to be interviews and we’d have to fake it with her to create the energy.”
Dropping what many fans will consider a bombshell, Cindy contrasted the current proposal with her previous rivalry, confirming that the bad blood between her and Sheebah was 100% authentic.
“I was real with the first battle,” Cindy confessed, pulling no punches. “There was no drama because we didn’t like each other.”
Without that organic animosity, Cindy believes a battle with Grace Nakimera would simply lack the teeth that Ugandan music fans expect from a true clash of titans. Both artists boast rich catalogs dating back to the 2000s—Cindy as a former member of the iconic girl group Blu*3, and Grace Nakimera as a solo pop force known for hits like Anfukula and Kawonawo. Despite their parallel reigns, Cindy feels a staged feud would do a disservice to their respective brands.
However, Cindy did not hesitate to mention Grace when asked who could theoretically match her stage presence. She revealed that what stands out most about Nakimera, who recently made a return to secular music after a stint in gospel, is the fire and ambition she brings to the industry.
“When they asked me who I thought would put up a good battle with me, I said I missed Grace’s energy,” Cindy said.
Cindy argued that while many female artists are content with scoring a quick hit song, shooting flashy videos, and settling into comfortable lives, Grace has always been focused on building a lasting legacy.
“She is one of those women who is ambitious,” Cindy explained. “Most female artists just want a hit, shoot some nice videos, get a good man, and that’s it. But there are artists who want to create a legacy, and Grace is one of them. You can see she wants something, she’s hungry.”
Clearly impressed by Grace’s return to the spotlight, Cindy admitted she is among the most excited to witness this new chapter of the singer’s career. Instead of a battle, Cindy is looking forward to supporting her peer from the VIP section.
“Just seeing her comeback, I’m one of the most excited people. I can’t wait to be at her concert,” she concluded.
