Top Boy MC shares his journey of resilience and passion in emceeing

Top Boy MC has opened up about the hardships he has endured throughout his journey as an emcee in Uganda’s entertainment industry, revealing that passion has been the driving force behind his resilience.

Speaking in an interview, the celebrated events host explained that one of the biggest challenges emcees face is going without pay, a situation he says can easily force many to abandon the profession if they lack genuine passion.

He recalled a difficult period in his career when he spent two years without holding a microphone, describing it as a time of deep reflection, regrouping, and strategizing before making his comeback.

According to Top Boy MC, the break gave him a better understanding of the entertainment business and helped him develop a unique approach to emceeing that sets him apart from many of his peers.

When you don’t get paid and you’re not passionate enough, you can quit. If I didn’t love it, I would have thrown in the towel already.

Imagine I sat for two years without touching the mic. You don’t know the mental state I was in before making a comeback. After those two years, I understood the business we’re dealing in. It became easier to navigate.

He also dismissed the notion that emceeing is purely a natural gift, insisting that it is a profession that can be learned and mastered through dedication and experience.

Emceeing is not an inborn talent. It’s just like any other type of occupation.
