Singer Rickman Manrick has ignited debate on social media after sharing his list of Uganda’s greatest musicians, leaving out some of the country’s most celebrated names, including Bebe Cool and Bobi Wine.
In a post on his X account, Rickman named Jose Chameleone and fast-rising singer Joshua Baraka among the finest musicians Uganda has ever produced, placing them alongside legendary figures such as Mowzey Radio, Fred Masagazi, Paul Kafeero, Elly Wamala, Herman Basudde and Bongole Lutaaya.
“After Moses Radio, Fred Masagazi, Paul Kafeero, Elly Wamala, Herman Basudde and Bongole Lutaaya, I think Dr Jose Chameleone and Joshua Baraka are the greatest musicians Uganda has ever produced. But what do I know!!!” he wrote.

The post quickly generated mixed reactions, with many music fans questioning Rickman’s omission of artists such as Bebe Cool and Bobi Wine, both of whom have played significant roles in shaping Uganda’s contemporary music industry.
Others focused on his inclusion of Joshua Baraka, arguing that although the Wrong Places singer is among the country’s brightest young talents, his career is still in its early stages to warrant comparison with some of Uganda’s most accomplished music legends.
Despite the criticism, Rickman stood by his opinion, insisting that Baraka possesses exceptional talent and has the potential to achieve international success.
He expressed confidence that the young singer could one day win a Grammy Award, describing him as an artist destined for global recognition.
Rickman also reflected on his own career, admitting that while he believes in his musical abilities, he does not consider himself to be in the same league as Jose Chameleone or Joshua Baraka.
According to the singer, the two possess a unique level of artistry that sets them apart from many of their peers.
