Former presidential contender Hon. Mubaraka Munyagwa has made a bold prediction about the ongoing 2026 FIFA World Cup, saying he believes an African nation could reach the final and face France.
Munyagwa shared his thoughts after being impressed by the performances of several Arsenal stars at the tournament.
He singled out Brazil’s Gabriel Magalhães and Gabriel Martinelli, with the latter scoring the decisive goal in Brazil’s 2-1 victory over Japan to secure a place in the Round of 16.
He also praised Germany’s Kai Havertz, who found the back of the net despite his side’s elimination from the competition.
Buoyed by the performances he has witnessed so far, Munyagwa predicted that three African nations could qualify for the World Cup quarter-finals.
He further stated that if they maintain their impressive form, two of those teams could progress to the semi-finals, with one even reaching the final against France.
So confident is he in his prediction that he jokingly advised those who believe in him to “go to the bank” and take out loans based on his forecast.
“Let me make a prediction. Africa is going to have three teams in the World Cup quarter-finals. And if all goes well, two teams may reach the semi-finals. And if you’re not careful enough, an African team may reach the final with France. You can take that prediction to the bank and get a loan over it.”
