The Anti-Corruption Court in Wandegeya has remanded Parliament’s Director of Communications, Chris Obore, and six other senior Parliament officials to prison until 7 July 2026 after they were charged with embezzlement, money laundering and other corruption-related offences.
The officials appeared before court on Thursday, where prosecutors accused them of illegally misappropriating billions of shillings in public funds over a period spanning several years. The accused denied the charges.
According to the charge sheet, Obore is accused of embezzling Shs5.2 billion, while Daniel Adilo faces allegations involving Shs14.6 billion, the largest amount among the accused.
Leonard Okema is charged with embezzling Shs3.48 billion, while Rajab Kaya is accused of misappropriating Shs2.17 billion.
The charge sheet also alleges that Emmanuel Emuron Okwi embezzled Shs1.1 billion, Stella Itute is accused of misappropriating Shs75 million, and Vincent Oteba is facing allegations involving Shs5.2 billion.
Prosecutors told the court that the alleged offences were committed between 2023 and 2026.
Following their appearance, the court remanded the seven accused to prison until 7 July 2026, when they are expected to return for further proceedings in the case.
