Portable has called on four of Nigeria’s biggest music stars to rethink the messages in their songs, saying fame and fortune have changed their priorities.
The controversial Nigerian singer, born Habeeb Okikiola Badmus, claimed Wizkid, Davido, Burna Boy and Olamide have abandoned inspirational songwriting in favour of music centred on women and luxury.
He said the industry needs more songs that teach valuable lessons and encourage listeners.
I noticed that Davido, Wizkid, Burna Boy and Olamide do not praise God in their songs, they only sing about ladies. Is it because they already have money and they believe they cannot fall?
He argued that today’s biggest artists have a responsibility to use their influence positively.
Their songs have no motivation. No sensible lyrics. Just women and vanity.
Portable ended by urging his colleagues to embrace more conscious themes.
Make conscious music. We are tired of all those songs about frivolities. I am also a musician. You all should do better.
