Toke Makinwa has weighed in on one of the most talked-about issues in modern relationships, arguing that many couples could avoid unnecessary problems by dating within their financial class.
Speaking on the MENtality podcast hosted by Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, the Nollywood actress said financial compatibility plays a bigger role in relationships than many people are willing to admit.
According to Makinwa, some men place themselves under unnecessary pressure by pursuing women whose lifestyles they cannot comfortably sustain, only to later accuse women of being materialistic when expectations become difficult to meet.
I am a big believer of date within your age and within your class. That way there will not be stories that touch. You will have a good girl at home, a girl who will even make dinner with her own money when you do not have. Yet, some men will still want to cheat on her with a woman they can’t afford.
She also challenged the popular belief that wealth changes people, insisting that financial success simply exposes a person’s true character.
Heaven forbid you end up with a guy who hasn’t blown. The day he blows that is when you will know his true personality. And that scares women.
Makinwa maintained that money does not transform people but merely amplifies the traits they already possess.
Money does not change people, it just reveal who the person is. So many men are treating women who sacrificed everything for them badly.
