Three victories. One defeat. Yet for Shakib Cham Lutaaya, the biggest moments of his corporate boxing career are not measured by wins alone.
The businessman and socialite opened his corporate boxing journey with victory over media personality JK Kazoora before losing to singer Rickman Manrick.
He responded by knocking out internet personality Barista Timo in the first round and later travelled to Nairobi, where he stopped Kenyan musician Arrow Bwoy in the second round.
During an interview on NBS Sport, Shakib explained why one defeat and one victory have come to define his journey inside the ring.
When I look at my fights, two of them really stand out. My fight with Rickman was different because it was a big fight, and he beat me fair and square. My most recent fight in Nairobi was also huge.
Rickman’s name still comes up because Shakib believes the fight exposed the one area where he let himself down.
Instead of making excuses, he says he simply failed to prepare well enough.
The Rickman fight became memorable because he knocked me out, and that may have happened because I did not prepare enough.
Arrow Bwoy, on the other hand, represents everything that followed.
He believes the victory crowned his rise in East Africa’s corporate boxing scene and gave every future challenger a target to chase.
The Nairobi fight was big because winning it meant I had conquered East Africa. Now, anyone who wants to conquer East Africa and win the corporate boxing belt has to fight me.
