Winnie Nwagi has weighed in on the growing number of women rejecting marriage proposals in public, saying the viral moments may entertain social media users but can leave lasting emotional scars.
Sharing her thoughts on Instagram Stories, the Swangz Avenue star said she sympathizes with men who invest time, money, and emotion into planning elaborate proposals, only to face rejection in front of family, friends, or strangers.
The way women are turning down proposals lately… muli baka mbatidde.
While Nwagi acknowledged that no one should feel pressured to accept a proposal they do not want, she urged women to handle those situations with more compassion.
She suggested that if a woman already knows she has no intention of marrying the man, she could spare him the public humiliation and instead explain her decision in private.
If you do not like the guy like that, at least you can pretend and say yes, then break it down for him after leaving the place… that kind of embarrassment is not really nice.
Nwagi believes the growing number of proposal rejection videos spreading across social media could discourage other men from proposing, especially those who already struggle with confidence.
A guy out there with low self-esteem would never do it even if he loves his woman… not after all these videos going around. Yo gonna make these men hate proposals.
She added that she would never publicly reject someone who had gone to such lengths to plan a proposal.
Personally I would not do that to someone who has put in such effort. I will rather play cool, then we sort ourselves after… in the most polite way possible.
