Not long ago, Uganda’s female DJs were fighting for recognition in an industry largely dominated by men.
Today, many are headlining events, commanding festival stages, and building brands that stretch far beyond the nightclub.
Among the names leading that conversation is Etania Mutoni.
Sir Aludah recently crowned her Uganda’s ultimate number one female DJ after media personality Bryan Kella McKenzie asked his followers on X to name their pick.
The veteran DJ pointed to the path she took to build her career, saying she chose to create her own stage instead of waiting for someone else to offer her one.
For me, it has to be ETANIA. I’ve always told DJs to build their own stage instead of waiting for an invitation to someone else’s. Etania is the ultimate example. She built her own stage, and now she’s owning it. Love to see it.
The praise is hardly surprising given the milestones Etania has achieved in recent years.
One of her biggest breakthroughs came in April when she became the first Ugandan female DJ to headline a concert at Lugogo Hockey Grounds with Becoming Life of the Party.
She has also broken barriers internationally, becoming the first female DJ from East Africa to perform at Afro Nation before taking to the stage during the Basketball Africa League (BAL) halftime show in Kigali.
For many in the industry, those achievements have cemented Etania’s place among Uganda’s leading female DJs, and Sir Aludah believes she has already earned the crown.
