Ray G‘s sold-out concert at Lugogo Cricket Oval may have strengthened his standing among fans, but Latinum says it does not make him the King of the West.
The dancehall singer believes many people have rushed to crown Ray G based on a single achievement.
During a phone interview on Galaxy FM, Latinum questioned why filling Lugogo Cricket Oval has become the benchmark for earning such a title.
Is he the first person to fill Lugogo?
To back his argument, Latinum pointed to several Ugandan artists who have also filled the venue.
He mentioned Jose Chameleone, Cindy Sanyu, Sheebah Karungi, Winnie Nwagi, and King Saha, all of whom staged successful concerts at Lugogo Cricket Oval.
For Latinum, that achievement alone does not justify crowning an artist King of the West.
He went on to argue that Ray G should recognize what he described as the existing hierarchy in western Uganda’s music industry.
He should sit down and understand that the king of dancehall is the King of the West musically.
The conversation then turned to Latinum’s own claim to the title, with the singer responding to questions about performing mainly in Luganda despite presenting himself as western Uganda’s leading artist.
He explained that language is a business decision rather than a cultural statement, adding that musicians who want to grow their careers must appeal to audiences across Uganda instead of limiting themselves to one region.
